Free Senior ID program- Farmingdale

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Senator Kemp Hannon (R-Garden City) will be partnering with Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano in sponsoring a free Senior ID Card Program in Farmingdale.

The program will be held from 12:00 pm- 4:00 pm on Wednesday, June 5th at the Farmingdale Library, located at 116 Merritts Road in Farmingdale. Nassau County residents ages 65 and over are eligible to participate and receive a free senior ID card. No appointments are necessary.

SENATE PASSES SENATOR FUSCHILLO’S LEGISLATION TO RAISE PENALTIES FOR TOLL DODGING

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that legislation he sponsors to raise penalties for drivers who intentionally avoid paying tolls on toll roads has been passed by the New York State Senate. The legislation would allow drivers who intentionally try to avoid paying a toll on a toll road to be prosecuted under the state’s theft of services law.

SENATE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE APPROVES LEGISLATION TO KEEP DRUNK DRIVERS OFF THE ROAD

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee, announced that the committee has approved legislation to keep drunk drivers off the road.  The legislation would ensure that DUI offenders do not have their license reinstated until they have completed all the terms of their sentencing, as well as strengthen New York State’s ability to permanently revoke the driver’s license of persistent DUI offenders.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES FREEPORT’S STEPHEN NICOLINO INDUCTED INTO SENATE’S VETERANS HALL OF FAME

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that Freeport resident Stephen Nicolino has been inducted into the New York State Senate’s Veterans Hall of Fame. Mr. Nicolino was named to the Hall of Fame by Senator Fuschillo.

     “Stephen Nicolino is a devoted and tireless advocate for our nation’s heroes. He has organized numerous service projects to aid local veterans, soldiers fighting overseas, and the community as a whole, and continues to serve in many different community organizations. His many years of service to his fellow veterans and the community make him most deserving of this honor, and it is my pleasure to congratulate him,” said Senator Fuschillo.

Stephen Nicolino

Stephen Nicolino is a devoted and tireless advocate for our nation’s heroes. His family has a long history of service to our nation. His father and four brothers all served in the armed forces and his two sisters worked in the defense industry during World War II. Mr. Nicolino followed in that proud family tradition, serving in the Air Force from 1952-1956. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and earned the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal-Germany, and New York State Medal for Merit.

SENATE PASSES LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION MEMORIALIZING THE LIFE OF NORTH MERRICK VETERAN TOM RIORDAN

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate recently passed a legislative resolution memorializing the life of North Merrick veteran Robert “Tom” Riordan, who passed away in April. Senator Fuschillo sponsored the legislative resolution in the Senate.

     “Tom Riordan made our community a better place. He was a devoted community leader who touched many lives through his generosity. Passing this legislative resolution is one small way to ensure that Tom’s incredible legacy of service will always be remembered,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATE HONORS NINE MASSAPEQUA GIRL SCOUTS FOR EARNING GIRL SCOUTING’S HIGHEST HONOR

    Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently announced that the New York State Senate passed legislative resolutions he sponsored honoring nine Massapequa Girl Scouts for receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award.

    The Gold Award is girl scouting’s highest honor and is a significant milestone in the life of a girl scout. The award is earned only through years of hard work, dedication to scouting’s ideals, and helping others. Before earning the award, a girl scout must also organize and complete a community service project.

    The following nine girls have been recognized by the New York State Senate for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award:

Jacqueline Gordon

Jacqueline “Jackie” Gordon has made serving others the primary focus of both her professional and personal life.

Ms. Gordon was born in Jamaica, West Indes and immigrated to America with her family when she was seven years old. She grew up in Queens and graduated from the New York City public school system. She continued her education at Hunter College, earning a bachelor’s degree in health education and later earned a master’s degree in guidance and counseling and a post graduate professional diploma in educational leadership from Queens College.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO TO SPONSOR FREE CITIZEN CPR COURSE IN NORTH BELLMORE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) will be sponsoring a free Citizen CPR course for residents on Saturday, June 1st in North Bellmore.

     The course will be held at the North Bellmore Library (1551 Newbridge Road) from 10:00 am-11:00 am. Trained CPR professionals from Bellmore-Merrick EMS will instruct residents on what to do when in an emergency situation where someone needs CPR.

     Program participants will learn live-saving, hands-only CPR techniques from a certified CPR instructor and be able to practice CPR chest compressions on a mannequin. AED demonstrations will also be performed.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO SPONSORING “SHED THE MEDS” PROGRAM IN ROOSEVELT

Residents can safely dispose of expired or unused medications on May 18th at the Roosevelt Library

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) will be sponsoring a “Shed the Meds” program in Roosevelt to help residents safely dispose of unused or expired medications.

     The “Shed the Meds” program will be held on Saturday, May 18th between 11 am and 2 pm at the Roosevelt Library, located at 27 West Fulton Avenue in Roosevelt. Residents will be able to drop off their old or unused medications for safe disposal by officers from the Nassau County Police Department who will be supervising the program.

News 12 Long Island: Sen. Fuschillo awards 7th-grader Victoria Scalli the Liberty Medal for saving dad's life

MERRICK - Sen. Charles Fuschillo Jr. has awarded a Merrick seventh-grader with one of the highest civilian honors that a New Yorker can receive for saving her father's life.

Victoria Scalli was awarded the Liberty Medal for saving her father's life back in February. Scalli says she was in her room doing homework when she heard her father, Mark, begin to choke on a piece of bread. Scalli's mom tried to do the Heimlich, but it wasn't working.

That's when Scalli jumped in and did the Heimlich herself, which she had recently learned in gym. The Merrick Avenue Middle School student was able to remove the lodged piece of bread.

Scalli says she was happy she was able to put the skills she learned in gym to work.
