SENATOR FUSCHILLO JOINS WITH MERRICK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS IN CELEBRATING THE GRAND OPENING OF SAN MARZANO BRICK OVEN PIZZERIA

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with members of the Merrick Chamber of Commerce and other community officials in celebrating the grand opening of San Marzano Brick Oven Pizzeria. 

     San Marzano’s, located at 38 Merrick Avenue in Merrick, is an Italian restaurant offering a variety of pizzas, calzones, appetizers, and deserts. Senator Fuschillo extended his best wishes to the staff at San Marzano’s for many years of success.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES OVER $750,000 IN HOMELAND SECURITY GRANT FUNDING FOR LONG ISLAND

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is informing residents that New York State announced that Nassau and Suffolk Counties will be receiving over $750,000 in total combined grant funding to enhance their emergency preparedness capabilities. 

     “Our first responders are the front line of defense and put their lives on the line every day to protect our families. This new funding will give them additional resources to perform their duties and help keep our communities safe,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO CALLS ON NTSB & USDOT TO EVALUATE TRACK CONDITIONS THROUGHOUT NEW YORK METRO AREA

        New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) has requested that the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and United States Department of Transportation conduct a comprehensive review and evaluate track conditions throughout the New York metropolitan region following yesterday's tragic train derailment in the Bronx.  Four other derailments have also occurred in the New York metropolitan area this year.

New York State is holding over $12 billion in unclaimed funds, and some of it may be yours! A simple internet search is all it takes to see if there are unclaimed funds in your name.

Why does New York State have unclaimed funds?

Banks, insurance companies, utilities, investment companies and many other businesses are required by State law to turn over inactive accounts to the State. The Office of the State Comptroller holds these funds in trust, serving as a custodian of these funds until they can be claimed by their rightful owners.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO STATEMENT ON METRO-NORTH TRAIN DERAILMENT

     “The derailment of a Metro-North train in the Bronx early this morning is a terrible tragedy which has already claimed several lives and resulted in numerous injuries. My thoughts and prayers are with all the victims of this derailment and my most heartfelt condolences go out to the families of those who lost their lives. I also thank the many first responders on the scene for everything they have done, and are continuing to do, to help the train’s passengers.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO: NEW LAW GIVING DMV STRONGER TOOLS TO FIGHT FRAUD TAKES EFFECT THURSDAY

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that a new law he authored giving the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) stronger tools to combat fraud takes effect this Thursday, November 28th. The law allows DMV to impose sanctions on drivers who try obtain a driver's license or vehicle registration for free through a "charge back" fraud scheme.

Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is alerting residents about phone and email scams from individuals claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. Scammers posing as IRS or State Tax Department officials are threatening New Yorkers with fines, arrest, and other penalties if they do not immediately pay a claim of owed taxes.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO CONGRATULATES NORTH BELLMORE RESIDENT ON EARNING LEADERSHIP AWARD FROM UCPN

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently congratulated North Bellmore resident Joel Meltzer on being honored by the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County (UCPN).

     Mr. Meltzer received the Harold Jay Greenberg Torch of Leadership Award for outstanding community service and commitment. He is a long-time supporter of UCPN and the families it serves. He is a member of UCPN’s board of directors, is a lifetime member of UCPN’s auxiliary council, and has helped get others involved in supporting the work of UCPN. Mr. Meltzer is also a past recipient of UCPN’s Corporate Leadership Award.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO AND SUPERVISOR SCHAFFER VIEW NEWLY RECONSTRUCTED ROAD IN WEST BABYLON

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer recently visited West Babylon to view a newly completed road improvement project. Senator Fuschillo secured state funding for the Town to make the improvements.

     As part of the improvement project, the Town of Babylon rehabilitated Patton Avenue between Wellwood Avenue and Little East Neck Road. The road, which is an important and widely utilized part of a business area, was deteriorating and needed to be overhauled. Using the state funds, the Town of Babylon completely reconstructed and resurfaced the road.

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is inviting residents to participate in his annual “Extend the Holidays” toy drive. 

“Extend the Holidays” is a toy drive Senator Fuschillo organizes each year for the benefit of children in Winthrop Hospital. Toys are delivered after the holidays, so that children can experience the joys of receiving a holiday gift throughout the year.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO INFORMS RESIDENTS THAT HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM OPENS ON NOVEMBER 18th

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is informing residents that New York’s Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) will begin accepting applications on Monday, November 18th. HEAP, which is overseen by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA), is a federally-funded program that provides up to $650 for eligible households to pay for energy costs in order to keep their homes warm during the winter.

     For the first time, Long Islanders will be able to submit applications for regular HEAP benefits online at myBenefits.ny.gov starting on November 18th.
