Breast Cancer Screening Program- North Bellmore

     New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), in conjunction with NuHealth/Nassau Health Care Corporation, will be sponsoring a breast cancer screening program on Thursday, February 21st from 8:45 am to 12:00 pm at the North Bellmore Library. The library is located at 1551 Newbridge Road in North Bellmore.

     Appointments are necessary and will be scheduled on first-come, first-served basis. On site nurses and technicians will provide a mammography, a clinical breast examination and instructions for self examination. Patients and their physicians will be notified of the exam results.

Free Prostate Cancer Screening- Bellmore

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), in conjunction with the Integrated Medical Foundation, will be sponsoring a free prostate cancer screening program in Bellmore.

    The free screening program will be held on Tuesday, February 5th between 4 pm and 6 pm at the Bellmore Library, which is located at 2288 Bedford Avenue in Bellmore. The free screenings will be conducted by Eric Thall, MD of Advanced Urology Centers of New York-Rockville Centre.

     The Integrated Medical Foundation’s guidelines for the program are as follows:

SENATOR FUSCHILLO PARTICIPATES IN CHATTERTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL’S COMMUNITY READING DAY

    Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently visited Chatterton Elementary School in Merrick to serve as a guest reader to Mrs. Shutz’ kindergarten class.  Senator Fuschillo read to the class as part of Chatterton’s annual Community Reading Day.     Senator Fuschillo read “House Mouse, Senate Mouse” by Peter and Cheryl Barnes to the students. The story allowed the children to learn in a fun way what Senator Fuschillo’s job is and how laws are made.    “I really enjoyed reading to Mrs. Shutz’ class. It was wonderful to see how involved the students got in the story and how excited they got about reading. I thank them for allowing me to visit with them,” said Senator Fuschillo.

Free Food & Supply Distribution Program for Hurricane Sandy Victims- Baldwin

Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray, Councilmembers Anthony Santino and Dorothy Goosby, and Long Island Cares will be partnering together in sponsoring free mobile food & supply distribution program in Baldwin to help residents affected by Hurricane Sandy.

     The program will take place on Tuesday, January 8th between 11 am and 2 pm at Baldwin Park, located at 3232 South Grand Avenue in Baldwin. Residents who were affected by Hurricane Sandy will be able to obtain the following items through the program free of charge:

     • Non-perishable food items

     • Water

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES NEW STATE FUNDING TO HELP PREVENT FLOODING IN THE VILLAGE OF FREEPORT

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that he has secured $110,000 in new state funding to help improve drainage and mitigate tidal flooding in the Village of Freeport.

     The state funding will enable the Village of Freeport to purchase and install new check valves throughout South Freeport to help mitigate flooding in many vulnerable areas. According to the Village, the valves incorporate a new, innovative design that improves drainage by keeping debris from getting caught in the valve.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO CALLS ON WASHINGTON TO RESTORE COMMUTER TAX BENEFIT FOLLOWING MTA FARE INCREASE

     “With commuters facing higher fares after approval of yet another MTA fare increase, it is more important than ever for Congress to restore the pre-tax mass transit benefit program to help reduce costs for commuters.

     Overburdened, overtaxed residents were hit with a nearly fifty percent tax increase in January when Congress failed to authorize an extension of the benefit, which allows eligible workers to set aside a portion of their pre-tax wages to pay for mass transit commuting expenses. These same workers will now see their commuting costs rise even higher because the MTA has raised fares once again. Many cannot afford to keep paying more.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES $750,000 IN STATE FUNDING TO HELP FARMINGDALE STATE COLLEGE PROMOTE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

            Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced $750,000 in new state funding has been awarded to support initiatives undertaken by Farmingdale State College to help create jobs and promote economic development. The funding was awarded as part of the second round of Regional Economic Development Council Funding, which Senator Fuschillo supported as part of the state budget.

     “I am extremely disappointed that the MTA Board has chosen to once again raise Long Island Rail Road fares on overburdened, overtaxed Long Islanders.  This most recent fare hike, the sixth since 2003, will only make the LIRR increasingly unaffordable and do nothing to encourage mass transit use.
