Freeport Native Receives New York State Conspicuous Service Cross From Senator Fuschillo

Air Force Staff Sergeant Timothy Russer, a native of Freeport, recently received the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross from Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District). Staff Sergeant Russer, who is also a prior recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, is currently serving on active duty as a military training instructor. As a member of the 106th Rescue Wing, he was deployed to Ground Zero after the September 11th attacks to directly provide security to the city residents.

Senator Fuschillo To Hold Prescription Drug Forum At Amityville Library

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) is inviting local senior citizens to a free community meeting to learn how the New York State EPIC program can help reduce prescription drug costs. The meeting will be held at the Amityville Public Library, located on the corner of Oak and John Streets in Amityville, on Thursday, February 2nd at 2 pm. A representative from the EPIC program will be on hand to explain how the program works and answer questions.

Senator Fuschillo Unveils New Property Tax Relief Plan

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District), together with Senator Dean G. Skelos (9th Senate District) and Senator Kemp Hannon (6th Senate District), today unveiled a new proposal to help alleviate the burden placed on Long Island’s property taxpayers. When fully implemented, the program, called REBATE-NY, would provide homeowners in Nassau and Suffolk counties with $532.8 million in school tax rebate checks directly from New York State and enable them to save another $71 million through larger state school tax exemptions.

Senator Fuschillo Applauds Fines For Local Gas Stations Convicted Of Price Gouging

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District), Chairman of the Senate’s Consumer Protection Committee, today applauded the New York State Attorney General’s office for uncovering and fining two local gas stations that engaged in price gouging. The Attorney General launched the investigation into gas price gouging, which was called for by Senator Fuschillo and other elected officials from across the state, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The investigation is still ongoing.

Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District), the Chairman of the Senate Consumer Protection Committee, announced that a consumer friendly amendment to New York State’s Lemon Laws is now in effect. The new law, which Senator Fuschillo sponsored, will require that any proceedings arising out of Lemon Law arbitrations are held at a location that is convenient for the consumer.To resolve disputes regarding defective motor vehicles, consumers may use the arbitration program, which is run through the New York State Attorney General’s office.

Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) announced today that he secured $5,000 in state grant funding for the Merrick Film Forum, which will help offset the group’s programming and operational expenses. Now entering its 48th season, the Merrick Film Forum currently has approximately 100 members. The group presents a unique format of films with interesting and lively speakers leading discussions of those films. The films are usually shown on the first Friday of the month between October and May at the Merrick Avenue Middle School.
