Senator Fuschillo Welcomes Environmental Contest Winners From Roosevelt To Albany

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) today welcomed almost 100 students from Ulysses Byas elementary school in Roosevelt to Albany to celebrate their participation in the New York State Senate’s I*ma*GREEN*nation program.An entry from Ms. Nateasha McVea’s 5th grade class won first place in the grades 4-5 division of the statewide contest. The literature entry was the result of a cooperative effort of her entire class of fifteen students, all of whom joined Senator Fuschillo in Albany to receive their first place awards.

Senator Fuschillo Joins Lindenhurst Students In Praising Project Adventure

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently visited Lindenhurst Middle School to view a public exhibition of the Lindenhurst School District’s "Project Adventure" program. The Lindenhurst School District initiated "Project Adventure" several years ago as a way to develop cooperative skills and character education among its students. The program uses games and challenging activities which require students to work together and use both their minds and bodies to find solutions.

Fairfield Students Join Senator Fuschillo In Saying "No" To Tobacco

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently visited Fairfield Elementary School in Massapequa to urge students to say "no" to tobacco. "Tobacco use is the number one preventable cause of death in America today. We urgently need to get the message across to children that smoking will destroy their lives and their futures," Senator Fuschillo said. "Tobacco kills more than twice the total number of people who die from AIDS, car crashes, breast cancer, suicide and murder combined.

Senator Fuschillo Renews Call For Seat Belt Usage On School Buses

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) today renewed his call for the required use of seat belts on school buses throughout New York State. This renewed effort comes in light of the recent school bus accident involving students from St. Christopher’s School in Baldwin, in which the school bus they were aboard overturned on a roadway in Queens. "New York State mandates that all passengers under the age of 16 wear a seat belt when traveling in a private vehicle but that same protection is not afforded to our students as they travel to and from school.

Senator Fuschillo Sponsors Legislation To Increase Penalties For Stealing Gas From A Pump

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District), Chairman of the Senate’s Consumer Protection Committee, has sponsored legislation to enhance the penalty incurred by individuals who fill their car with gas and then drive away without paying. Under current law, all individuals who steal gas from a pump can be charged with petit larceny, which is a class A misdemeanor and punishable by a fine and/or a maximum prison sentence of one year.
