SENATOR FUSCHILLO: MEASURES TO HELP PREVENT GAS SHORTAGES DURING DECLARED FUEL SHORTAGE EMERGENCIES INCLUDED IN STATE BUDGET

Budget Includes Provisions for Gas Stations to Purchase Generators or be Prewired to Receive a Generator

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the state budget will include measures to help prevent gas shortages during a declared energy or fuel shortage emergency.

     The budget makes provisions for federal grants for gas stations in key areas of Long Island, New York City, and Westchester and Rockland Counties to be wired to receive generators or purchase generators that will be used in the event of a declaration of an energy or fuel shortage emergency by the Governor, County Executive, of Mayor of New York City.

Increase is the First in Five Years and Will Help Create Jobs, Promote Economic Development, and Improve Infrastructure

SENATE PASSES SENATOR FUSCHILLO’S LEGISLATION TO COMBAT MEDICAID FRAUD

Legislation Would Allow County District Attorneys to Work with State in Prosecuting Cases of Medicaid Fraud

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that the New York State Senate passed legislation he sponsors to improve law enforcement’s ability to prosecute Medicaid fraud and recover taxpayer dollars.

     The legislation (S773) would allow the State’s Office of Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) to refer Medicaid fraud cases to local district attorneys for prosecution.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO NAMED “CITIZEN OF THE YEAR” BY FREEPORT POLICE BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) was recently named “Citizen of the Year” by the Freeport Police Benevolent Association (PBA).

     In bestowing the award on Senator Fuschillo, the Freeport PBA praised Senator Fuschillo’s service to the community, calling it “an example for everyone to follow.”

     “I am extremely grateful and humbled to receive this recognition from the Freeport PBA. I thank the members of the Freeport Police Department for this honor as well as for their service in protecting and safeguarding the residents of Freeport,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATE PASSES SENATOR FUSCHILLO’S LEGISLATION ALLOWING REPEAT CHILD ENDANGERMENT OFFENDERS TO FACE FELONY CHARGES

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that the New York State Senate has passed legislation he sponsors to create felony charges for individuals who repeatedly endanger the welfare of a child. The legislation would correct an inequity in current law which does not allow for enhanced charges to be brought against repeat offenders.

SENATE PASSES SENATOR FUSCHILLO’S RESOLUTION HONORING SEAFORD EAGLE SCOUT

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate recently passed a legislative resolution he sponsored honoring Seaford resident Quentin Lettieri for attaining scouting’s highest honor: the rank of Eagle Scout.

     Quentin, a member of Troop 690 in Seaford, distinguished himself for the honor following years of community service, dedication to scouting, and hard work.

Small Business Networking Expo

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is inviting all current and prospective small business owners to his 2013 Small Business Networking Expo, which take place on Thursday, April 18th from 5 pm to 6:30 pm at the Seaford Knights of Columbus, located at 2183 Jackson Avenue in Seaford.

     The event will provide current and aspiring small business owners with an opportunity to network with one another and learn about services that could help their business grow. Additionally, businesses that were affected by Superstorm Sandy will be able to get information and speak to representatives from government and non-profit agencies about recovery programs designed to help businesses.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO’S LEGISLATION TO HELP DETER UNDERAGE DRINKING APPROVED BY TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that legislation he sponsors to help deter underage drinking has been approved by the New York State Senate’s Transportation Committee. The legislation (S4106) would allow courts to suspend the driver’s licenses of underage alcohol offenders for failing to appear before the court or complete their court-ordered sentencing obligations.

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today welcomed students from the Seaford Middle School Jazz Band to the State Capitol in Albany.

The students performed in Albany as part of the New York State School Music Association’s annual “Music in our Schools Month.” The band played a concert in the Empire State Plaza for an audience of legislators, staff members, and capitol visitors.

The program will be held from 12:00 pm- 3:00 pm on Tuesday, April 2nd at the Brady Park Senior Center, located at 1000 Lake Shore Drive in Massapequa Park. Nassau County residents ages 65 and over are eligible to participate and receive a free senior ID card. No appointments are necessary.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO SPONSORS FREE CHILD CAR SEAT SAFETY CHECK IN FARMINGDALE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently partnered with the New York State Police in sponsoring a free car seat safety check where parents could have their children’s car seats checked for proper installation. The program was held at the State Police Headquarters in Farmingdale.

     State Troopers performed the inspections and fixed any child safety seats that were improperly installed. Parents were also informed of the steps they should take to make sure their child’s car seat is used properly in the future.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES OVER $4 MILLION REIMBURSEMENT TO SUFFOLK COUNTY FOR COSTS INCURRED DURING SUPERSTORM SANDY

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that New York State has provided $4,023,035 million to Suffolk County for reimbursement of debris removal costs incurred by the county following the impact of Superstorm Sandy. Suffolk County experienced severely damaged trees and other vegetation, leaving approximately 348,372 cubic yards of debris on county roads, right of ways, parks and other public spaces. The county responded by combining village personnel, equipment and some outside contracts. Contracts were used for debris clean-up, tree removal, garbage and landscape removal and movement of debris to disposal location.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO’S LEGISLATION RAISING PENALTIES FOR WRONG-WAY AND RECKLESS DRIVERS PASSED BY SENATE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced today that the New York State Senate has passed legislation he sponsors to strengthen penalties for wrong-way and reckless drivers.

     “Wrong-way and reckless drivers continue to jeopardize safety and endanger lives on our roadways, but the penalties they face under current law do not appropriately reflect that. Law enforcement needs stronger tools to prosecute these drivers for their reckless actions and get them off our roads. With this legislation, that is exactly what they would get,” said Senator Fuschillo, Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee.
