     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano will be sponsoring two Property Tax Exemption Workshops in Bellmore and Merrick. 

     The workshops will be held on:

     • Friday, October 11th from 1 pm to 3 pm at the Bellmore Library (2288 Bedford Avenue, Bellmore).

     • Friday, October 25th from 1 pm to 3 pm at the Merrick Library (2279 Merrick Avenue, Merrick)

SENATOR FUSCHILLO: GOVERNOR CUOMO SHOULD SIGN LEGISLATION TO STRENGTHEN NEW YORK’S BOATING SAFETY LAWS

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today urged Governor Andrew Cuomo to sign legislation he cosponsored which would strengthen New York’s boating safety laws by requiring individuals to obtain a boating safety certificate before operating a vessel.

     “This legislation is a step in the right direction that will improve safety for everyone on the water. Learning about basic safety procedures, navigation, and rules of the water before operating a powerful motor vehicle that can injure or kill someone is just commonsense. Governor Cuomo should sign this legislation to make our waterways safer,” said Senator Fuschillo, Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES OVER $6.5 MILLION FOR TRANSIT PROGRAMS ON LONG ISLAND

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that New York State has awarded over $6.5 million in grants for transportation improvements on Long Island. The grants will help fund projects that will improve transportation infrastructure and support economic development.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO SPONSORS FREE PROSTATE CANCER PSA TEST PROGRAM IN WANTAGH

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), in conjunction with the Integrated Medical Foundation, recently sponsored a free prostate cancer PSA test program at the Wantagh Library. 

     Men who participated in the program were able to receive a free PSA blood test, regardless of whether or not they had insurance.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO JOINS GOVERNOR CUOMO & PGA IN ANNOUNCING PGA CHAMPIONSHIP & RYDER CUP COMING TO BETHPAGE STATE PARK

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with Governor Andrew Cuomo and PGA officials at Bethpage State Park to announce that the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup will be played at Bethpage State Park's Black Course. 

     The PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup are two of golf’s most premier tournaments. Each one attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators from around the world and provides a significant economic boost to the communities that host them.

      Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) was recently a guest on Cablevision’s “Meet the Leaders, ” a local program which explores the people, policies, and issues which are responsible for directing the future course of Long Island. 

     On the show, Senator Fuschillo and Host Pat Halpin discuss new funding for Long Island’s transportation infrastructure, stronger distracted driving penalties, the need for tougher drunk driving laws, and the need for Washington to extend similar storm mitigation improvements being considered for Suffolk County’s homeowners to Nassau County as well.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO TO COLLECT CELL PHONES FOR SOLDIERS ON OCTOBER 12th

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) will once again be sponsoring a “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program to benefit our troops serving overseas on Saturday, October 12th. 

     Residents with outdated or unwanted cell phones can donate them at the Seaford Train Station Parking Lot (northwest corner of Sunrise Highway & Jackson Avenue, Seaford) on October 12th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Participating in the program is easy; residents can simply drive up, drop off their unwanted cell phones, and drive away.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES NEW LAW TARGETING DANGEROUS ‘BATH SALT’ DRUGS

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently announced that legislation he supported to stop the sale and use of deadly bath salt-type drugs has been signed into law by Governor Cuomo. The “bath salt-type’ drugs have been linked to several deaths of young people in New York. 

     The new law will further curb the use of ‘bath salts’ by adding new compounds used to make these types of drugs to the state's banned substances list. It classifies these compounds as Schedule I stimulant controlled substances and imposes criminal penalties on those who sell, use and/or possess these drugs. The law makes it a felony to sell the substances to a minor or on school grounds.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO & ASSEMBLYMAN CURRAN TO SPONSOR BREAST CANCER SCREENING PROGRAM IN BALDWIN

     New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Assemblyman Brian Curran (R-Lynbrook), in conjunction with NuHealth/Nassau Health Care Corporation, will be sponsoring a breast cancer screening program on Tuesday, October 8th from 8:45 am to 12:00 pm at the Baldwin Library (2385 Grand Avenue, Baldwin). 

     Appointments are necessary and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. On site nurses and technicians will provide a mammography, a clinical breast examination and instructions for self examination. Patients and their physicians will be notified of the exam results.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO JOINS SEAFORD COMMUNITY IN REMEMBERING 9/11 VICTIMS

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with the Seaford community at Seaford High School for a memorial ceremony to remember the victims of the 9/11 attacks. 

     The Memorial Ceremony is an annual event sponsored by the 9/11 Seaford High School Memorial Committee to remember the five Seaford High School alumni who were killed in the attacks of September 11th. Hundreds of Seaford residents and community organizations participated in the ceremony and candlelight vigil to honor the memories of the victims and show their patriotism.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO & ASSEMBLYMAN MCDONOUGH JOIN WANTAGH COMMUNITY IN REMEMBERING THOSE TAKEN FROM US ON 9/11

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R-North Merrick) today joined with the Wantagh American Legion and members of the Wantagh community in remembering those who were taken from us on 9/11. 

     The ceremony is an annual tradition which the American Legion sponsors to honor the memory of the 9/11 victims and pay tribute to the heroes who helped rescue others from danger. Bells were rung in memory of each of the Wantagh residents who were killed in the attacks.

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and his staff recently “went blue” in honor of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. 

     Senator Fuschillo and his staff each wore blue to work to help raise awareness about prostate cancer and show their support for prostate cancer patients, survivors, and their families. 

     Senator Fuschillo is also sponsoring two prostate cancer screening programs as part of prostate cancer awareness month. The programs will take place on:

SENATOR FUSCHILLO: ASSEMBLY SHOULD PASS LEGISLATION TO PREVENT COMMUTERS FROM LOSING STATE TAX BENEFITS TO FEDERAL GRIDLOCK

     With commuters’ federal and state pre-tax transit benefits set to expire at the end of the year, Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is calling on the New York State Assembly to join the Senate in passing legislation to prevent New York State’s pre-tax mass transit benefit from being reduced because of gridlock in Washington. The benefit provides state tax savings to commuters who use the Long Island Rail Road and other mass transit.
