SENATOR FUSCHILLO HELPS CUT THE RIBBON ON ROOSEVELT’S NEW HIGH SCHOOL

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with the Roosevelt community in celebrating the grand opening of the newly rebuilt Roosevelt High School. 

     The new high school is the final part of a district-wide initiative to rebuild its entire infrastructure of schools. It includes new classrooms, science and computer labs, a library, and job training centers.

     “This is another great day for the Roosevelt community. This beautiful new building provides students with a state of the art learning environment from which to grow. The future is bright for the Roosevelt School District,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO REMINDS RESIDENTS ABOUT PENALTIES FOR PASSING A STOPPED SCHOOL BUS

     With schools back in session, Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is reminding drivers to always stop for school buses which are stopped with their red lights flashing. 

     “School buses put their red lights on to warn drivers that students are getting on or off the bus. Passing a stopped school bus which has its red lights flashing endangers children and is against the law. Drivers can do their part to help keep students safe by always remembering to stop for a school bus,” said Senator Fuschillo, Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO WARNS CONSUMERS ABOUT NEW TEXT MESSAGE IDENTITY THEFT SCAM

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is alerting consumers about a new scam in which identity thieves steal consumers identities through text messages.

     The thieves send victims text messages which appear to be from financial institutions, utility companies or cell phone service providers.  The text messages prompt recipients to click on an imbedded link or call the listed number. When consumers reply, they are then prompted to share personal identifiable information such as a PIN or social security number.

Breast Cancer Screening Program-Baldwin

     New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Assemblyman Brian Curran (R-Lynbrook), in conjunction with NuHealth/Nassau Health Care Corporation, will be sponsoring a breast cancer screening program on Tuesday, October 8th from 8:45 am to 12:00 pm at the Baldwin Library (2385 Grand Avenue, Baldwin). 

     Appointments are necessary and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. On site nurses and technicians will provide a mammography, a clinical breast examination and instructions for self examination. Patients and their physicians will be notified of the exam results.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES STATE FUNDING TO HELP MASSAPEQUA SCHOOL DISTRICT IMPROVE SECURITY

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently announced that he secured $30,000 in state funding for the Massapequa School District to improve its security systems.  

     According to the district, the funds will be used to purchase additional surveillance cameras, enhance training in threat assessment procedures for staff, and implement an Incident Command System, which will allow for the integration of communication and personnel among various jurisdictions. The new measures will allow the district to greatly enhance the safety of students and school personnel.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO AND ASSEMBLYMAN MCDONOUGH SPEAK WITH BELLMORE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Assemblyman David G. McDonough (R-North Merrick) recently visited with members of the Bellmore Knights of Columbus at their retiree meeting. 

     Senator Fuschillo discussed a number of important issues with the members, including ways to protect themselves from senior scams, upcoming programs and services which seniors can take advantage of, and how the new STAR registration requirements will affect seniors.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO SECURES STATE FUNDING FOR NEW COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY AT BELLMORE MEMORIAL LIBRARY

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently announced that he secured $5,000 in state funding for new computer technology at the Bellmore Memorial Library. 

     The funding will help the Library purchase computer hardware and software for its new teen space, including a new computer and i-Pads for teens to use in the Library. Additionally, the library will purchase i-Pads which allow reference staff to instruct patrons how to use Library resources on their own i-pads, along with reference and reader advisory services.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO CALLS ON ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS TO EXTEND PROPOSED HOME ELEVATION PROGRAM TO NASSAU HOMEOWNERS

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today called on the US Army Corps of Engineers to extend the same proposed storm mitigation measures proposed for Suffolk County communities under the FIMP plan, including elevating homes and infrastructure in flood prone areas, to Nassau County as well.

Basic STAR Registration Information

All homeowners currently receiving the Basic STAR exemption must register with the New York State Department of Taxation & Finance in order to continue receiving the exemption in 2014 and subsequent years. This is part of a new initiative to ensure that tax dollars are not wasted on inappropriate or fraudulent STAR exemptions.

Who must register?

Resident homeowners who currently receive the Basic STAR exemption must register with the New York State Tax Department to continue receiving the exemption in 2014 and future years.

Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), in conjunction with the Integrated Medical Foundation, will be sponsoring a free prostate cancer PSA test program in Wantagh. The free PSA blood tests will be provided on Tuesday, September 17th between 4 pm and 6 pm at the Wantagh Library, located at 3285 Park Avenue in Wantagh.

The Integrated Medical Foundation’s guidelines for the program are as follows:

• Open to all men between the ages of 40 and over who have not previously been diagnosed with prostate cancer, regardless of whether or not they have insurance;

• Each patient will receive a free PSA blood test;

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES STATE FUNDING FOR NEW EQUIPMENT AT AMITYVILLE LIBRARY

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that he secured $5,000 in state funding for new equipment at the Amityville Library. 

     The library will use the funding to purchase a scanner for patron use. The scanner will allow patrons to easily scan a variety of materials, including letters, photographs, business forms, and school books. The equipment will also be beneficial to residents affected by Superstorm Sandy, who must often scan documents for their insurance companies or federal and state agencies.

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that he secured $30,000 in state funding for security improvements at schools in the Freeport School District. 

     The funding will be used to help offset the costs of purchasing and installing keyless door entry systems. According to the district, these new trackable access push systems will greatly enhance the safety and security of the district’s students and staff.
