State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. announced today that the Senate has approved legislation that he co-sponsored to expand the state’s DNA database to include samples from every person convicted of a crime. The measure would also improve the methods for collection and preservation of DNA evidence and extend the statute of limitations for cases based on DNA evidence. Senator Fuschillo (R-Merrick) said, "The DNA databank is a powerful tool that helps law enforcement solve crimes and protect New Yorkers.

Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) and Assemblyman Tom McKevitt (17th Assembly District) recently welcomed Eric Seltzer, a fifth grade student at Saw Mill Road Elementary School in North Bellmore, to Albany, where his artwork was being displayed. Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McKevitt joined Eric and his mother, Laurie, in viewing Eric’s project during its exhibit in the Legislative Office Building. Eric and his mom also got a private tour of the Senate Chambers from Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McKevitt.

State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. announced that the State Senate this week approved legislation that he sponsored to bring New York State’s "Do Not Call" law into compliance with the National "Do Not Call" law, to better protect New York consumers from unsolicited telemarketing calls. Under the legislation, telemarketers and businesses would have to update their New York State "Do Not Call" list every 31 days rather than every 90 days under current law.

McDonough (19th Assembly District) during the Senator’s "Mobile Office Hours" program at the Bellmore Library.Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McDonough spoke to constituents about a variety of state and local issues, including property tax relief, affordable housing, and the increase in state education aid they secured for the Bellmore and North Bellmore School Districts as part of the 2007-08 state budget.

After winning the 2006 New York State Little League Championship, players and coaches from the Merrick-North Merrick Little League’s 10/11 year old team were recently treated to a special day in Albany by Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) in recognition of their achievement. The team’s championship victory in 2006 and runner up finish in 2005 mark the most successful back-to-back tournament runs in the League’s 56 year history.

Universal default allows credit card companies to increase interest rates if a cardholder makes a late payment to another credit card company or even pays a phone or utility bill late.
