Senator Fuschillo Announces Agreement On New Law To Allow Prosecutors To Charge Drunk Drivers Who Kill With Homicide

State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. today announced a three-way agreement on legislation that he sponsored in the Senate (S.5517A), that would create the new charge of aggravated vehicular homicide for drunk drivers who kill others and aggravated vehicular assault for drunk drivers who injure other people. Negotiations between Senator Fuschillo, Governor Eliot Spitzer and the bill’s Assembly sponsor, Harvey Weisenberg resulted in agreement on the measure that will strengthen New York State’s DWI laws.

Senate Approves Fuschillo Measure Requiring A Sign Be Posted Indicating The Location Of A Lifesaving Defibrillator

State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. announced that the State Senate approved legislation (S.1548A) this week that he sponsored that would require a sign be posted in the main entrance of buildings and facilities indicating the location of an automated external defibrillator (AED). The bill has also been approved by the State Assembly and will be sent to the Governor for consideration. Senator Fuschillo And Assemblyman Rivera Announce Legislative Approval Of Bill To Ban Credit Card Companies From Using "universal Default" In New York State

State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Assemblyman Peter M. Rivera (D-Bronx) today announced that both houses of the Legislature have approved legislation to ban the practice of "universal default" in New York State. Universal default allows credit card companies to increase interest rates if a cardholder makes a late payment to another credit card company or even pays a phone or utility bill late. Nearly half of U.S. banks use universal default, enabling them to legally raise credit cardholders’ interest rates as high as 40 percent.

Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently visited Dinkelmeyer Elementary School in North Bellmore to congratulate second graders Kristen Murphy and Rebecca Spear on their achievements in the Reflections cultural arts program.The two Dinkelmeyer students were each chosen as winners in the program. Kristen was chosen as a New York State PTA winner in the Dance Choreography category. Rebecca was selected as a Nassau County PTA winner in the visual arts category.

Senator Fuschillo Secures State Funding For 2 New Safety Vehicles For Wantagh Fire Department

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) announced today that he successfully secured $50,000 in state funding to allow the Wantagh Fire Department to purchase two new emergency response vehicles. The vehicles will be used by fire medics and fire safety officers, who are often one of the first responders on the scene of an emergency. Having these personnel at the site of a fire or medical emergency greatly enhances the safety of both the firefighters and the general public.
