SENATOR FUSCHILLO PARTICIPATES IN VILLAGE OF FREEPORT’S INSTALLATION CEREMONY

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently attended the installation ceremony of the new Village board for the Village of Freeport.

     Senator Fuschillo participated in the ceremony by swearing in newly elected Village Trustee Ron Ellerbe. He also offered his congratulations to new Mayor Robert Kennedy and Deputy Mayor Carmen Pineyro as they begin their new term in office.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO, SENATOR HANNON AND COUNTY EXECUTIVE MANGANO TO SPONSOR FREE SENIOR ID CARD PROGRAM IN FARMINGDALE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Senator Kemp Hannon (R-Garden City) will be partnering with Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano in sponsoring a free Senior ID Card Program in Farmingdale.

     The program will be held from 1:00 pm- 4:00 pm on Thursday, April 25th at the Farmingdale Library, located at 116 Merritts Road in Farmingdale. Nassau County residents ages 65 and over are eligible to participate and receive a free senior ID card. No appointments are necessary.

FREEPORT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE NAMES SENATOR FUSCHILLO “CITIZEN OF THE YEAR”

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) was recently named “Citizen of the Year” by the Freeport Chamber of Commerce.

     The Freeport Chamber of Commerce bestowed the award on Senator Fuschillo “in recognition of [his] outstanding service and contributions to the Village of Freeport.”

     “I am extremely grateful and thankful to the Freeport Chamber of Commerce for honoring me with this award. I look forward to continuing to work with the Freeport Chamber of Commerce to improve the quality of life for all the residents of the Village,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES SENATE PASSAGE OF 2013-14 STATE BUDGET

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate has passed the 2013-14 New York State Budget, which provides tax relief to residents and businesses, helps promote economic development, and delivers additional state aid to Long Island.

     For the third consecutive year, the budget keeps spending growth below two percent, which is consistent with the local spending cap that applies to school districts and local governments.

Legislation Would Create New Penalties for Thieves Who Use Phony Receipts to Steal From Businesses

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced today that the New York State Senate passed legislation he sponsors to help combat organized retail theft, a crime which costs businesses and law abiding consumers billion of dollars each year.

     The legislation would create new penalties for individuals who use counterfeit receipts or Uniform Product Code (UPC) labels to steal from retailers.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO: STATE BUDGET INCLUDES $9 BILLION INVESTMENT IN TRANSPORTATION

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Budget includes an over $9 billion investment in transportation. The funding will allow for transportation infrastructure investments that will improve roads and bridges, help create jobs and promote economic development. It also makes investments in mass transit, aviation, and railroads throughout the state and eliminates the need for an increase in commercial tolls on the New York State Thruway.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO: FUNDING FOR NEW DMV CUSTOMER SERVICE INITIATIVES INCLUDED IN STATE BUDGET

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the state budget includes funding for major new Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) customer service initiatives. The initiatives will enable the DMV to become more accessible, easier to use, and customer friendly. 

     “Nearly every driver has had the frustrating experience of waiting at DMV for what seems like forever just to perform a simple transaction. That should be the exception, not the norm. This new funding will enable the DMV to implement aggressive and necessary reforms that will enhance service, reduce wait times, and most importantly, improve the way its customers are treated,” said Senator Fuschillo, Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee.

Budget Includes Provisions for Gas Stations to Purchase Generators or be Prewired to Receive a Generator

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the state budget will include measures to help prevent gas shortages during a declared energy or fuel shortage emergency.

     The budget makes provisions for federal grants for gas stations in key areas of Long Island, New York City, and Westchester and Rockland Counties to be wired to receive generators or purchase generators that will be used in the event of a declaration of an energy or fuel shortage emergency by the Governor, County Executive, of Mayor of New York City.

Legislation Would Allow County District Attorneys to Work with State in Prosecuting Cases of Medicaid Fraud

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that the New York State Senate passed legislation he sponsors to improve law enforcement’s ability to prosecute Medicaid fraud and recover taxpayer dollars.

     The legislation (S773) would allow the State’s Office of Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) to refer Medicaid fraud cases to local district attorneys for prosecution.

     In bestowing the award on Senator Fuschillo, the Freeport PBA praised Senator Fuschillo’s service to the community, calling it “an example for everyone to follow.”

SENATE PASSES SENATOR FUSCHILLO’S LEGISLATION ALLOWING REPEAT CHILD ENDANGERMENT OFFENDERS TO FACE FELONY CHARGES

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that the New York State Senate has passed legislation he sponsors to create felony charges for individuals who repeatedly endanger the welfare of a child. The legislation would correct an inequity in current law which does not allow for enhanced charges to be brought against repeat offenders.
