MEPHAM STUDENTS HELP SENATOR FUSCHILLO COLLECT CELL PHONES FOR SOLDIERS

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently stopped by Mepham High School in Bellmore to thank students for once again participating in his “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program.

“It’s great that Mepham’s students once again worked to make a difference in the lives of our servicemen and women. Every phone they collected will help bring soldiers and sailors a little closer to their loved ones back home. I thank them for participating in this program and doing such a great job,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO THANKS BIRCH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR COLLECTING OVER 500 CELL PHONES FOR SOLDIERS

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently visited Birch Elementary School in Merrick to thank students for collecting over 500 cell phones for his “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program.

“Birch’s students did an absolutely unbelievable job. The over 500 phones they collected will go a long way towards enabling our soldiers and sailors to stay in touch with their loved ones back home. I thank them for their efforts and congratulate them on a job well done,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO NAMED “CHAMPION OF SAFER STREETS” BY TRI-STATE TRANSPORTATION CAMPAIGN FOR WORK ON COMPLETE STREETS LAW

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) was recently honored by the Tri-State Transportation Campaign at their 2011 Annual Benefit.

Senator Fuschillo, along with Wantagh resident Sandi Vega and AARP, were chosen as the organization’s 2011 “Champions for Safer Streets” for their work on New York State’s Complete Streets Law. Senator Fuschillo sponsored the law in the Senate. Mrs. Vega, whose 14 year old daughter Brittany was killed while crossing Sunrise Highway last year, and AARP joined Tri-State Transportation Campaign in strongly advocating for the law.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO TO SPONSOR BREAST CANCER SCREENING PROGRAM IN SEAFORD

New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), in conjunction with NuHealth/Nassau Health Care Corporation, will be sponsoring a breast cancer screening program on Thursday, December 15th from 8:45 am to 12:00 pm at the Seaford Library. The library is located at 2234 Jackson Avenue in Seaford.

Appointments are necessary and will be scheduled on first-come, first-served basis. On site nurses and technicians will provide a mammography, a clinical breast examination and instructions for self examination. Patients and their physicians will be notified of the exam results.

NuHealth’s guidelines for the program are as follows:

* The program is open to all Nassau County women ages 40 and over.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO: STATE LAUNCHES NEW ALERT SYSTEM FOR MISSING VULNERABLE ADULTS

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that New York State recently launched a statewide alert system to help locate vulnerable adults who go missing. The “Missing Adults Alert” system, which is similar to the national Amber Alert program for missing children, will help authorities quickly notify the public when someone with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or other cognitive impairment goes missing.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO HELPS RESIDENTS SAFELY DISPOSE OF UNWANTED MEDICATIONS & CELL PHONES

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently helped residents safely dispose of over 200 pounds of unwanted medications and over 1,000 old cell phones through his “Shed the Meds” and “Cell Phones for Soldiers” programs. The programs were held at the Bellmore Train Station.

Senator Fuschillo’s “Shed the Meds” program enables residents to safely dispose of expired or unwanted medications. The over 200 pounds of medication collected were taken by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, which supervised the program, for safe disposal. Safe disposal helps protect the environment and keeps medications out of the hands of young children or others who would use them improperly.

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today joined with officials from the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores in celebrating the grand opening of one of Bellmore’s newest small businesses, Beyond Fitness. Beyond Fitness, which is located at 2854B Merrick Road in Bellmore, is a state of the art basketball and fitness training facility.

Senator Fuschillo joined with the Chamber members, as well as Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R-North Merrick), Councilwoman Angie Cullin, and Town Clerk Mark Bonilla in helping owners Steve Drury and Kris Cabrera cut the ribbon on their new small business and wishing them all the best for many years of success.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO APPEARS ON FOX 5 NEWS TO CALL ON ASSEMBLY TO PASS LAW REQUIRING BUS DRIVER CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS

Senator Fuschillo appears on Fox 5 News to once again call on the NYS Assembly to pass his legislation requiring criminal background checks for all bus drivers. The bill has already been approved by the NYS Senate.

OVER 1,000 RESIDENTS TAKE PART IN SENATOR FUSCHILLO’S GOLDEN GATHERING

Over 1,000 residents from Nassau and Suffolk Counties came to the Freeport Recreation Center today to participate in Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.’s annual Golden Gathering.

This year’s Golden Gathering had over 100 exhibitors from government and non-profit agencies to provide information about a variety of issues, including health and nutrition, insurance, public safety, and consumer protection. The event also gave residents the chance to get free blood pressure, hearing, vision, and chiropractic screenings, and no out of pocket flu & pneumonia vaccines provided by Nu Health.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO RENEWS CALL FOR ASSEMBLY TO PASS BILL REQUIRING CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR ALL BUS DRIVERS

“Today’s announcement by Governor Cuomo regarding the removal of 116 bus drivers from the road further highlights the need for greater oversight of the bus industry.

As the Governor noted, 530 bus drivers have been removed from the road since last spring through DOT safety inspections. That’s a staggering number, especially considering that it only reflects drivers who got caught. Undoubtedly, there are many more that not only remain on the road, but are responsible for other people’s safety.

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that he will be holding Mobile Office Hours in Seaford on Wednesday, November 16th. All residents are invited to participate in the program, which will be held at the Seaford Library, located at 2234 Jackson Avenue in Seaford, from 1-3 pm.

Senator Fuschillo’s Mobile Office Hours brings government services directly to residents in their own community. Residents who need assistance with government services, have questions about government programs, or would like to express concerns about a particular issue can come and share them with Senator Fuschillo in a one-on-one setting. No appointments are necessary.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO REMINDS RESIDENTS TO “SHED THEIR MEDS” & DONATE OLD CELL PHONES ON OCTOBER 29TH

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is reminding residents that they can safely dispose of their old, unwanted medications and cell phones on Saturday, October 29th at his “Shed the Meds” and “Cell Phones for Soldiers” programs.

Both programs will be held at the Bellmore Train Station’s far west parking lot, located on the northwest corner of Sunrise Highway and Centre Avenue, between 9 am and 12 pm. Residents will be able to simply drive up, drop off their unwanted medications and/or old cell phones, and drive away.
