SENATOR FUSCHILLO INFORMS RESIDENTS HOW TO FIND OUT IF THEY ARE ENTITLED TO UNPAID LIFE INSURANCE BENEFITS

      Following a New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) investigation which recovered $386 million in unpaid life insurance benefits for New Yorkers, Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is informing residents how they can check and see if they are entitled to unpaid life insurance benefits. 

     “There are hundreds of millions of dollars in unpaid life insurance benefits which are owed to New York families. Using the Department of Financial Services’ free lost policy finder, families can find out more about these benefits and see if they may be entitled to unpaid funds,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO THANKS RESIDENTS FOR SAFELY DISPOSING OF NEARLY 1,000 POUNDS OF UNWANTED MEDICATION THROUGH “SHED THE MEDS” PROGRAM

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today thanked the over 400 residents from across the south shore who participated in his recent “Shed the Meds” program. The program collected nearly 1,000 pounds of expired and unwanted medications for safe disposal.

     “Safely disposing of medication helps to prevent pollution and keep it out of the hands of children and others who would use it improperly. That’s exactly what ‘Shed the Meds’ allows residents to do. Through the efforts of all the residents who participated, nearly 1,000 pounds of medications were kept out of the waterways and off the streets,” said Senator Fuschillo (R-Merrick).

SENATOR FUSCHILLO, SENATOR SKELOS, AND COUNTY EXECUTIVE MANGANO TO SPONSOR PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTIONS WORKSHOP IN BALDWIN

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Senator Dean G. Skelos (R-Rockville Centre), and Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano will be sponsoring a Property Tax Exemption Workshop on Friday, July 26th from 1 pm to 3 pm at the Baldwin Library (2385 Grand Avenue, Baldwin).

Tax exemption specialists from the Nassau County Department of Assessment will be equipped with computers linked to the county’s database, and property tax exemption applications for Basic STAR, Enhanced STAR, senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, veterans, volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians will be processed. Tax exemption specialists will also provide assistance and answer any questions residents have about these exemptions.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO CONGRATULATES FREEPORT RESIDENT FOR EARNING NATIONAL DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD FROM BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently congratulated Freeport resident George N. Boulukos on receiving the prestigious Silver Buffalo Award from the Boy Scouts of America. 

     The Silver Buffalo Award, scouting’s highest commendation, is a national award for distinguished service to youth. It is awarded only to individuals who give truly noteworthy and extraordinary service to youth on a national level.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO AND COUNTY EXECUTIVE MANGANO TO SPONSOR FREE SENIOR ID CARD PROGRAM IN NORTH BELLMORE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano will be sponsoring a free Senior ID Card Program in North Bellmore. 

     The program will be held from 10:00 am- 12:00 pm on Tuesday, July 30th at the North Bellmore Library, located at 1551 Newbridge Road in North Bellmore. All Nassau County residents ages 65 and over are eligible to participate and receive a free senior ID card. No appointments are necessary.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO AND COUNTY EXECUTIVE MANGANO TO SPONSOR KIDPIX PHOTO ID PROGRAM AT WANTAGH LIBRARY

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano will be sponsoring a free KidPix photo ID program in Wantagh. The program will be held on Monday, July 22nd from 3:30 pm to 6 pm at the Wantagh Library (3285 Park Avenue, Wantagh).

     The KidPix program gives parents a convenient way to keep their children’s important information on a single, wallet sized ID card. The KidPix card includes the child’s name, physical description, contact information, and photograph. The child’s fingerprint is also included on the back of the card. In the event that a child goes missing, parents can give the KidPix card to law enforcement as a helpful tool to help return the child home more quickly.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO MEETS WITH NEW MTA BOARD MEMBER FROM WANTAGH

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Chairman of the Senate's Transportation Committee, recently met with newly appointed Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Board member, and Wantagh resident, John Molloy. Mr. Molloy was recently confirmed by the New York State Senate to his new position.

     Senator Fuschillo congratulated Mr. Molloy on his new position and discussed a number of issues with him, including the future of the MTA, current MTA & LIRR services, and the need to cut costs and avoid fare increases to help make the MTA more affordable for residents.

New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with the Village of Amityville in celebrating Independence Day by marching in the Village’s Fourth of July Parade. The parade is an annual tradition in the Amityville community.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO AND COUNTY EXECUTIVE MANGANO SPONSOR FREE SENIOR ID CARD PROGRAM IN MERRICK

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano recently sponsored a free Senior ID Card Program in Merrick.

     The program offered seniors ages 65 or older a free wallet-sized ID card which includes a photo, the holder’s personal contact information (name, address, phone number, date of birth), and an emergency contact name and phone number which could be useful to emergency responders. Seniors can carry the card in their wallet so that emergency responders will know who to contact if the senior is in an emergency situation and cannot communicate.

New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently participated in the Village of Massapequa Park’s Independence Day Parade. The parade is an annual tradition in the Massapequa Park community and is among the largest July 4th parades in the County.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO, ASSEMBLYMAN WEISENBGERG & ADVOCATES URGE GOVERNOR CUOMO TO SIGN LEGISLATION TO STRENGTHEN LEANDRA’S LAW

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg (D-Long Beach) today urged Governor Andrew Cuomo to sign legislation they sponsored to strengthen Leandra’s Law. Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman Weisenberg were joined by Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and members of the anti-DWI advocacy organizations MADD and DEDICATEDD in supporting the legislation and urging residents to be safe and designate a driver this July 4th.

     The legislation would ensure that more convicted drunk drivers use ignition interlocks as required by law. It would also make it more difficult for drivers to claim they will not operate a car and enhance penalties for individuals who try to escape the law through fraud.

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee, announced today that legislation to suspend the driver’s licenses of teenage drivers who text or talk on a cell phone while driving has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo. SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES NEW “START-UP NY” ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT LEGISLATION SIGNED INTO LAW

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently announced that legislation he supported to create jobs and promote economic development has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The START-UP NY legislation will create tax-free areas around the state’s colleges, universities and other designated areas, as well as address the need for regulatory relief for businesses.

     “Creating jobs and promoting economic development must remain top priorities to keep New York State headed in the right direction. Utilizing Long Island’s colleges as economic development engines through the START-UP NY program will help attract new businesses, create jobs, and strengthen our economy,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES SENATE PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION TO CREATE REGISTRY OF CONVICTED ANIMAL ABUSERS

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate recently passed legislation that would create a statewide registry of convicted animal abusers who violate Buster’s Law.

     “An animal is not just a piece of property; they are loving, feeling creatures who become part of your family. Heartless and sick people who cruelly abuse and torture animals should never, ever be allowed to own a pet again. Creating a statewide registry of convicted animal abusers would help prevent these individuals from adopting or owning a pet again and protect innocent animals who cannot protect themselves,” said Senator Fuschillo, who supported the legislation.

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, and Town of Babylon Clerk Carol Quirk recently sponsored a free Senior ID Card Program for Town of Bablyon residents at the Tanner Park Senior Center in Copiague.

     The program allowed Town of Babylon residents ages 60 and over to obtain a free wallet-sized senior ID card. The card includes their photo and personal data, physician’s contact information, and emergency contact phone numbers which could be useful to paramedics in a medical emergency.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO CONGRATULATES AMITYVILLE STUDENT ON RECEIVING CADET APPOINTMENT SCHOLARSHIP TO SUNY MARITIME COLLEGE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently congratulated Amityville resident John Siemer for being selected to receive a Cadet Appointment Scholarship from SUNY Maritime College. Senator Fuschillo nominated John to receive the award, which grants recipients a four year, full tuition scholarship to SUNY Maritime College.

     John recently graduated magna cum laude from St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School and plans to major in Mechanical Engineering at SUNY Maritime College. He participated in a number of different extracurricular activities, including volleyball, varsity swimming, the surfing club, and the table tennis club. John was also involved in a number of different local community service programs.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO TO SPONSOR FREE PROSTATE CANCER PSA TESTS IN FARMINGDALE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), in conjunction with the Integrated Medical Foundation, will be sponsoring a free prostate cancer PSA test program in Farmingdale. The free PSA blood tests will be provided on Tuesday, July 23rd between 4 pm and 6 pm at the East Farmingdale Fire Station, located at 930 Conklin Street in Farmingdale.

     The Integrated Medical Foundation’s guidelines for the program are as follows:

     • Open to all men between the ages of 40 and over who have not previously been diagnosed with prostate cancer, regardless of whether or not they have insurance;

     • Each patient will receive a free PSA blood test;
