The Inaugural World Trade Center Run to Remember (WTCRTR) will be a celebration of the lives of those lost on September 11, 2001. This event will offer a great opportunity for all people who were affected by the events of 9-11 to come together to remember each victim, while running, or walking, around beautiful Governors Island, in the heart of New York Harbor.
Creative Time is putting on a new public artquadrennial: PLOT, taking place on historic Governors Island and featuringinternational artists responding to the island with new, site-responsive artworks. Thefirst edition of PLOT, This World & Nearer Ones, is curated by Mark Beasley. Theproject is produced in association with Governors Island Preservation and EducationCorporation, the National Park Service, NYC & Company, and the Office of theMayor.

The first 100 children who come to a reading of Touching the Sky on September 13 will receive a free pocket-sized Mighty Kite of their very own. Touching the Sky is a charming work of historical narrative, telling the story of Wilbur Wright's first flight over water, launched from Governors Island, and Orville's groundbreaking flights on an early tour of Europe.
As the Neptunes, Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo have quickly become one of the world's top pop and hip-hop production teams, crafting hits for everyone from Britney Spears to Snoop Dogg. But William's and Hugo apparently desire something more from their career than the accolades and cash that come from making other people's music. And so in 2001 with help from colleague, Shae, they formed their own band, N*E*R*D. Their debut, In Search Of . .
Spend the Friday before Labor Day jumping off a ferry boat and circling a piece of Manhattan at this challenging 2-miler around the birthplace of New York City, with great views of Lower Manhattan, Jersey City, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and, of course, Governors Island itself. The island will be open to the public during the event, meaning there will be more fans than ever cheering you on at the fifth annual Governors Island Swim..
This week’s program features the Brooklyn Children’s Museum and NY Road Runners for the Children’s Hour (arts/crafts/games/contests); the Grand Street Community Band for the live performance; some terrific kids shorts by local filmmakers; and Fly Away Home, a family classic for the young and the young at heart. There’ll also be FREE hotdogs & popcorn for our viewing audience. Come early & enjoy while supplies last.

Bring your gently used clothes, bedding, books, toys, and electronics (in working order or not) and cart away as much as you please.
