Bill would redefine ATV in state law to make side-by-side vehicles legal up to 1,500lbs
ALBANY (April 27, 2010)—The New York State Senate Transportation Committee today moved legislation sponsored by Sen. Aubertine (S.4277) that would allow all-terrain vehicle riders to legally register and ride side-by-side ATVs on trail systems throughout the state.
The committee voted 16-1, meaning the bill—which has an Assembly sponsor—will be eligible for consideration soon on the Senate floor.
As Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, Sen. Aubertine has been pushing for a better understanding of agriculture in New York State, it's importance in our economy, the struggles facing farmers, and to set the record straight on issues.
Representatives of the Alliance for Municipal Power, a coalition of 24 municipalities in St. Lawrence and Franklin Counties, were in Albany on April 20 to lobby the passage of a bill to create the North Country Power Authority, which would enable the municipalities to band together to buy and sell energy at a discount to residents in those municipalities.
Sen. Aubertine sponsored this legislation in the Senate, which passed on March 8.
