Senators Carlucci and Murphy to Host Naloxone Training

Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester) and Senator Terrence Murphy (R, I, C – Yorktown), in partnership with the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) and Communities that Care are hosting a Naloxone training, on August 5th, from 6 p.m. –  8 p.m. at the Ossining Library.   

Naloxone is a lifesaving antidote that can be used on an individual who is experiencing an opioid overdose. Through the efforts of OASAS and other agencies, over 55,000 people have been trained statewide, and more than 1,500 lives have been saved.

Senator Carlucci Invited to White House for 25th Anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act

Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester) has been invited to the White House by President Barack Obama to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

President George H.W. Bush signed the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990. The ADA gives civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion. The ADA also assures equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities for access to businesses, employment, transportation, state and local government programs and services, and telecommunications.

Senator Carlucci Hosts Naloxone Trainings

Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester), in partnership with the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) hosted a Naloxone training at the New City Public Library on Monday, July 13th.  

Members of the Clarkstown Auxiliary Police, local school nurses, healthcare providers and concerned members of the community attended the training, where over sixty people were taught how to administer Naloxone. 

Naloxone is a lifesaving antidote that can be used on an individual who is experiencing an opioid overdose. Through the efforts of OASAS and other agencies, over 55,000 people have been trained statewide, and more than 1,500 lives have been saved.

Senator Carlucci Secures State Funding for Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities

Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester) Camp Venture, and Just-A-Buck will be hosted a grand opening of their new store on July 13th at the Route 202 Shopping Center in Garnerville, NY.

Through a New York State grant secured by Senator Carlucci, Just-A-Buck will employ people with disabilities to ring up and assist customers, stock shelves, and perform other duties that add to the exceptional service one receives when they shop at Just-A-Buck.

Senator Carlucci to Host Hike of 1779 Trail

Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester) will be hosting a “Hike with Your Senator,” on Thursday, July 16th from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Senator Carlucci will be leading a group through the 1779 Trail, which retraces the route taken by Brigadier General Anthony Wayne’s Corps of Light Infantry in its assault on the British fortifications at Stony Point.

The Hike will launch at 5:30 p.m. from the Fort Montgomery State Historic Site, located at 690 Route 9W, Fort Montgomery, NY.

Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester), in partnership with the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) and Communities that Care will be hosting two Naloxone trainings. The Westchester training is being held on Wednesday August 5th from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Ossining Public Library, located at 53 Croton Avenue, in Ossining, NY.

Senator Carlucci Pushes for Regulation of Single Purpose Day Camps

Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester) and Champion Day Camp owner Sasha Bunchuk hosted a press conference calling for the regulation of single-purpose day camps.

Under current state law, unlike multi-purpose day camps, single-purpose day camps do not require permits from the New York State Department of Health.

To receive a permit from the Department of Health, multi-purpose day camps are subject to inspections that include camp conditions as well as applications filed by all employees at the camp. Multi-purpose camps must also check the sex offender registry and do criminal background checks on potential employees.

Senator Carlucci Passes ABLE Act

Senator David Carlucci has passed S4472D/A7767B, legislation that will provide people with disabilities and their families the opportunity to create a tax-exempt savings account that can be used for maintaining health, independence and quality of life.

In December 2014, the Federal Government passed the Achieving a Better Life Experience also known as the ABLE Act. This legislation, allows family members or caregivers to save money for a loved one that has a disability, tax free. Now that New York has passed S4472D, they can take part in this historic program.

Senator Carlucci Passes Legislation to Fight Heroin Epidemic

Senator David Carlucci, as a member of the New York State Senate Heroin Task Force, has passed a bi-partisan, comprehensive legislative package to combat the heroin and opioid epidemic.

The package included Senator Carlucci’s bill S631, which establishes an assisted outpatient treatment for substance use disorders, and enables a court to order assisted outpatient treatment (AOT) for an individual with a substance use disorder who, due to his or her addiction, poses a threat to him or herself or others.

Senator Carlucci Calls for Stricter Residency Requirements for Sex Offenders

New City, N.Y. – (5/26/15) – Senator David Carlucci, (D – Rockland/Westchester), Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski (D – New City), Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack (D – Clarkstown), and Clarkstown residents hosted a press conference calling for stricter residency requirements for sex offenders.

Due to a loophole in New York State law, a Level 3 sex offender is currently legally residing approximately 175 feet from Nella Di Nuovo Daycare. The daycare facility is located on Lenox Avenue, in a residential area of Congers.

Senator Carlucci Calls for "Safer Crossings"

Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester), hosted a press conference on Friday, May 15th to call for the passage of S3858, legislation that will authorize the New York State Department of Transportation to collaborate with other organizations to find out which grade crossing lanes are not safe, and how much it would cost to fix them.

The House Appropriations Committee unanimously approved an amendment to increase funding set aside for railroad grade crossing improvements in the Highway Safety Improvement Program by $130 million. Although the numbers of accidents and fatalities at level grade rail crossings have fallen steadily on a national level, they have increased in New York State.

Senator Carlucci Hosts Student Mock Session

Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester) chartered a bus for almost fifty students from Rockland County to the New York State Capitol in Albany to host a Mock Session.

Senator Carlucci’s Student Advisory Council prepared for the Mock Session by choosing bills to debate, on issues including paid family leave, banning flavored tobacco products and raising the minimum wage. Students also drafted and voted to pass legislation that increased voter registration by creating a "motor voter" automatic registration system and allowing for the pre-registration of 16 and 17 year olds.

Senator Carlucci Honors Ossining Resident as "Woman of Distinction"

Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester) honored Dream “The Dreamster” Shepherd at the New York State Senate’s annual “Woman of Distinction” ceremony on May 6, 2015 in Albany, NY.

The Women of Distinction Ceremony is an annual event that honors leading women from across the state for their achievements in business, academics and civics, as well as those who have performed heroic or selfless acts, made significant discoveries or provided examples of personal excellence against difficult odds.

Dream Shepherd, an Ossining resident, was born with sickle cell disease. The hereditary blood disorder resulted in complications for Dream, including chronic pain and a stroke at five years old.

Senator Carlucci Pushes for Access to Opioid Antidote Over-the-Counter - Sends Letter to Health Commissioner Zucker Requesting Standing Order

Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester) has sent a letter to New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker, requesting he issue a Standing Order for the drug Naloxone.

Naloxone (also known as Narcan) is an “opioid antagonist” medication, used to counter the effects of opioid overdose. This life saving medication is used in opioid overdoses to counteract life-threatening depression of the central nervous system and respiratory system.

Senator Carlucci & Aufgang Architects Host "Roof Topping" Ceremony

Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester), Ari Aufgang of Aufgang Architects and Brooker Engineering hosted a “Roof Topping Ceremony” for Suffern Building Works, a commercial plaza that is the largest new commercial investment on Main Street that the Village of Suffern has seen in years.

The lot, which has been vacant for over 60 years, will house 28 thousand square feet of state of the art office and retail space, and draw 80-100 employees to the Village of Suffern.
