Senator Carlucci and Assemblywoman Gunther Join Fight to Protect People with Developmental Disabilities

Sponsor Paula’s Law in Assembly and Senate

ALBANY, NY – Assemblywoman Aileen M. Gunther (D, C – Forestburgh) and Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Orange) today announced their sponsorship of legislation (S4817/A7128) requiring the installation and operation of surveillance cameras at all entrances and exits of facilities operated by the New York State Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), including group homes, residential homes and inpatient facilities. It would also require the commissioner of OPWDD, in consultation with the State Police, to develop a system for maintaining such recorded images.

“There is no higher calling than having the chance to advocate for the welfare and well-being of all New Yorkers, especially those with mental illnesses and developmental disabilities.  So many rely on having access to quality services and programs, and we have an obligation as public servants to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.   As Chairman of the Senate Mental Health Committee, I will continue to fight for better access and care for all individuals.

SENATOR CARLUCCI JOINS ADVOCATES, DOCTORS TO CALL FOR RESTORING PRESCRIBER PREVAILS TO NEW YORK MEDICAID BUDGET

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senator David Carlucci today was joined by a coalition of mental health advocates, physicians and patients to call on Governor Cuomo to reinstate “prescriber prevails” for atypical antipsychotics in the 2013-2014 state budget via the 21-day amendments. The group also urged the Governor and Legislature to restore “prescriber prevails” for all drug classes in the Medicaid budget.
