Nyack Skatepark Projected to be Completed in Summer of 2015

Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) visited skateboarding lessons that have been organized by the community group Nyack Needs a Skatepark this week in the municipal lot in the Village of Nyack. The group has worked diligently to raise funds and awareness for the need to build a skatepark in Nyack.

Working with Senator Carlucci, the group received $100,000 in state funding which completed their fundraising goal for the park.

Senator Carlucci said, “Working with my colleagues in the Senate, we were able to secure a grant that will finally let the Village of Nyack complete this project. I want to thank the community for working from the ground up to make this vision a reality."

Senator Carlucci & Advocates Celebrate New Law To Protect People with Special Needs

Today Senator David Carlucci celebrated the signing of new legislation into law that will protect people with special needs. The primary purpose of the bill is to protect people with disabilities during an interview with the Justice Center, a law enforcement agency and advocate for people with special needs.

While the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs was given all the powers of a law enforcement agency, it was not required to take into account the special needs of the people who it is charged with protecting during the course of an interview.

Senator Carlucci Unveils Comprehensive Plan to Keep Tolls Affordable on the Tappan Zee Bridge

Today Senator David Carlucci celebrated  a toll relief plan at Memorial Park in Nyack for residents of Rockland and Westchester counties. The plan aims to offset the possibility of rising costs for residents who commute over the Tappan Zee Bridge. The initiative includes a discount for residents of Rockland and Westchester counties, a tax credit for toll expenses, a plan to go after chronic toll evaders and the consolidation of services between the Thruway Authority and the Bridge Authority.

Nanuet School District Creates New Innovative Outdoor Programs at Outdoor Education Center

On Friday, October 10th, Senator David Carlucci visited the Nanuet Outdoor Education Center, along with Superintendent Mark McNeill and Assistant Superintendent Meredith Fox, to observe new programs happening at the Outdoor Education Center. The programs are designed to teach students the importance of agriculture and the idiosyncrasies of marketing and selling a product.

Ossining Library Warms Up Before Winter

On Tuesday, October 7th, Senator David Carlucci met with Ossining Library Acting Director Molly W. Robbins and Library Board President Alice Joselow to discuss the $50,000 grant that the Senator has secured for the library. Ossining Library Board President Alice Joselow stated that the library intends to use the money for a new HVAC system, specifically a supplemental heating system.

Senator Carlucci said, “I am happy to be able to help the library and its patrons acquire a new heating system. The system will ensure this important facet of the community stays open and warm throughout the upcoming winter season.”

Over 13,000 New Organ Donor Registrants in New York on Anniversary of Lauren’s Law

Today Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) celebrated the one year anniversary of Lauren’s Law at the Student Union of SUNY Rockland Community College. According to the New York State Department of Health, since the law went into effect last year, Lauren’s Law has added over 13,000 new donors to the New York State Donate Life Organ Donor Registry.

These additional organ donor registrants can potentially save thousands of lives though organ transplantation and improve the lives of many more through the gift of sight and tissue donation.

Senator Carlucci Thanks Rockland Parent for Help Saving Lives of Victims of the Heroin/Opioid Epidemic

Senator Carlucci presented Rockland resident Michael Zall, a parent who lost his son to opioid addiction, with the pen certificate of the legislation he helped get signed into law this past June this morning.  The new law will create a relapse prevention program that will be available to individuals for up to nine months after the completion of a treatment program. 

Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) said, “This legislation is in direct response to the parents that we heard from that unfortunately lost their children to heroin and opioid addiction. Creating a relapse prevention program treats addiction as a disease which goes after the real problem.”

Victim of Heroin Addiction Asks Residents to Help Save Lives

Senator Carlucci joined Raymond Quinones of New City, who is recovering from heroin addiction, and the Rockland Paramedic Services to talk about the importance of the overdose antidote Narcan for victims of Heroin and Opioid abuse and conduct a demonstration on how the medication works. 

Within a span of six months, Raymond Quinones overdosed on heroin four times. Each time, he was revived by friends and paramedics by Narcan.

Now 90 days sober, Quinones is studying psychology in college and is teaming up with Senator Carlucci increase access to Narcan to help others.

Senator Carlucci Delivers for Nyack Plaza Residents Unable to Receive Mail for Months

NYACK- Senator Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) visited residents of Nyack Plaza to announce new mailboxes have been ordered for the complex this week. For months residents had to walk to the local post office to pick up their mail because the postal service would not deliver mail to the broken mailboxes due to security reasons.

The mailboxes were broken months ago due to an act of vandalism. The new boxes will allow USPS to deliver mail directly to the residents and will be installed in the next two weeks.

Senator David Carlucci learned of the sitatuion on a recent visit with Nyack Plaza Residents.

Senator Carlucci Announces Roadway Improvements for Orange Turnpike in Sloatsburg

SLOATSBURG- Senator Carlucci joined Sloatsburg Mayor Carl Wright and local resident George O'Dell to announce critical funding secured by the Senator to repair a dangerous section of Orange Turnpike, Route 17 in the Village of Sloatsburg.

The over 100 year old stone wall has been deteriorating in recent years causing a dangerous situation for motorists and pedestrians alike. Several car accidents have been reported in the area.

The issue was brought to the Senator's attention at a mobile office he held last year in the Village.

Senator Carlucci Hosts 3rd Annual Senior Fair

According to U.S. Census Data, there are more than 45,000 seniors residing within Rockland County alone. This amounts to nearly 15% of the county's total residential population.

Today Senator David Carlucci teamed up with Rockland Community College to host their third annual Senior Fair at the College. The Senior Fair was a unique opportunity for senior citizens to learn about new opportunities related to healthcare services, recreational and educational programming, non-profit assistance, financial services, and more.

This event allowed seniors to continue aging-in-place while taking advantage of the community-based services that make independent living possible

Senator Carlucci & Mental Health Association of Rockland to Offer safeTALK Suicide Prevention Class

With support from Senator David Carlucci, the Mental Health Association of Rockland is offering a free three-hour suicide prevention “safeTALK” class to the general community on Wednesday, September 10 from 9am to noon, with registration starting at 8:30.

SafeTALK is a model of teaching adults how to recognize warning signs of suicidal thinking and to engage in meaningful conversation with someone who may be at risk with the ultimate goal of connecting that person to more expert help.

Governor signs Senator Carlucci Bill to Simplify Voting in New York

Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) announced that his bill (S3553), was signed this week by the Governor (Chapter 289). The new law will simplify the process of obtaining an absentee ballot. It will now be easier for registered voters, who cannot be present at their polling place on Election Day, to vote. The legislation is designed to accommodate commuters, who would likely spend most of the day away from their county of residence, and people who are primary care providers or have a physical disability.
