Senator Carlucci, Assemblywoman Galef Announce Legislation Banning Smoking on Playgrounds

Ban Would Protect Children During Most Popular Play Times

OSSINING, NY – Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Orange) and Assemblywoman Sandy Galef (D-Westchester/Putnam) today joined with anti-smoking advocates and officials to urge immediate action on state legislation (A.6451/S7627) that will prohibit smoking at public playgrounds where children under twelve are present during the hours between sunrise and sunset. This legislation would not preempt local municipalities which have enacted more stringent anti-smoking policies.

Passed in Senate and Assembly, Bill Now Moves to Governor Cuomo’s Desk

NANUET, NYSenator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Orange) today announced the historic passage of Lauren’s Law (S.7103A), the first of its kind law in New York State that will save lives and increase the enrollment of organ donation. 

Joined by 12 year-old Stony Point resident Lauren Shields, the heart transplant recipient for whom the law is named after, as well as organ donation advocacy groups that pushed for passage of the bill, declared victory as the bill now heads its way over to Governor Cuomo’s desk to be signed into law.

NYACK HOSPITAL TO HOST FREE BREAST CANCER SCREENINGS FOR UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED WOMEN IN ROCKLAND COUNTY

NYACK, NY (June 8, 2012) -  On June 8th from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Nyack Hospital will host FREE Breast Cancer Screenings for uninsured and underinsured women in Rockland County.  The screenings include routine Mammography and Clinical Breast Exams.  This cancer screening event is grant funded by the Cancer Services Program of the Hudson Valley Region in partnership with Nyack Hospital, and, in part, with a grant from Capital One.  Refreshments will be provided by New York State Senator David Carlucci.

Senator Carlucci Hosts Veterans ThoughtRaiser in Pearl River to Spur Job Creation

PEARL RIVER, NY – Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Orange) today hosted his very first Veterans ThoughtRaiser, a policy focused roundtable geared towards generating real ideas and solutions to increase employment opportunities among our returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan.

The theme of the Senator’s ThoughtRaiser – “Getting Our Vets Back to Work” – explored ways in which the federal and state government can actively partner together, streamline redundancy and encourage agency cooperation, and discuss a multitude of issues and bills currently being debated in the New York State legislature. The roundtable also explored ways in which businesses can take advantage of tax incentives for hiring returning veterans.

William T. Mahan

William T. Mahan (Bill) graduated with a B.S. from Fairfield University in 1952 where he majored in Pre-Law and Government. Entering the U. S. Army on September 9, 1952 during the Korean War, Bill successfully completed Basic Training in the Ordnance Corps at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Maryland. Within the Ordnance School, he was an instructor of basic electricity, fundamental math, small arms repair/maintenance and he advanced to Course Head of the Small Arms Section of the school, as a Staff Sergeant. On September 8, 1954 he was released from active duty, and transferred to the US Army Reserves where he served until he was honorably discharged in September 1960.

Jane Brown is the Executive Director of Child Care Resources of Rockland, Inc. (CCRR). She has worked for CCRR for more than 20 years, during which time she developed a reputation as a fierce but always gracious advocate for quality early childhood education in Rockland County and New York State.

Ms. Brown is persistent in accomplishing the mission of CCRR to promote the healthy development of all children by providing referral services for families seeking child care; providing training and assistance to providers; and educating the business community, school districts and government officials on the importance of quality child care to the vitality of the community.
