Senator Carlucci Passes Critical Legislation to Tackle Heroin Epidemic

Earlier this week the Senate passed a bi-partisan, comprehensive package of legislation to combat the heroin and opioid epidemic that is sweeping through our neighborhoods. As the sponsor of two of these pieces of legislation that targets treatment and prevention, it gives me great hope to hear my colleagues in the Senate, who spoke in support of these two pieces of legislation, talk about heroin abuse and addiction as a disease that needs to be treated as such.

Senator Carlucci Passes Critical Legislation To Tackle Heroin Epidemic

As Vice Chair of the Senate’s Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Abuse, Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) authored the successful passage of two pieces of legislation that focus on prevention and treatment options for those who have fallen prey to the recent heroin epidemic.

At hearings across the State friends and family members of victims shared similar experiences of loved ones being denied outpatient treatment for their addiction.

Assemblywoman Galef and Senator Carlucci Push to Remove Offensive Signage Introduce Bill to Create New "Accessible" Disability Sign

ALBANY - Assemblywoman Sandy Galef and Senator David Carlucci held a press conference in Albany to promote legislation that would modernize the Universal Symbol of Access to be implemented throughout New York State. This important legislation calls for the elimination of the word 'handicapped', and changes the icon symbol to represent a person seated in a wheelchair while appearing to be in motion.

Alan Moskin was born in Englewood, New Jersey, on May 30, 1926. He attended Syracuse University and graduated after his service in May 1948. Mr. Moskin then attended New York University Law School, graduating in 1951; he has practiced law as a trial attorney for more than 20 years, and worked in the private sector until he retired in 1991.

Senator Carlucci & Assemblywoman Jaffee Push for Protections for Service Dog Owners Bill Passes Senate, Push to Pass in Assembly Made

PEARL RIVER- Senator Carlucci and Assemblywoman Jaffee stood with service dog owner and Pearl River resident Andrea Myscak to make a final push to pass legislation in the Assembly that will provide protections for service dog owners discriminated against throughout the State.

There are approximately 20,000 service dogs across the country that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks that benefit an individual with a disability. Typically, dogs are handled in a three-unit service team consisting of a person with a disability, a trained service dog and a person over the age of eighteen who has been trained to handle a service dog.

Josephine Pucci had her first experience skating on an ice rink at fi ve years old! As a hockey fan, Ms. Pucci’s father wanted his children to enjoy the excitement an ice rink can bring. Little did he know, this experience would lead his oldest daughter to an Olympic Medal with the United States Women’s Hockey Team.

Senator Carlucci Recognize Rockland Residents at Albany Senior Day

ALBANY- Senator David Carlucci along with Assemblymembers Jaffee & Zerbowski recognized seniors at the New York State Senior Citizen's Day today for demonstrating a power to make a difference through civic engagement in their community. This year's honorees are James Finn of West Nyack, Bella Shore of Grand View and Lily Klaver of Nanuet. Combined they have been volunteering for over 60 years across a variety of agencies and services in the county and State.

Senator Carlucci Honors Ossining Girls Basketball Team on Senate Floor for Winning State Title

Senator Carlucci honored the Ossining Girls Basketball team on the Senate floor today for winning the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class AA State Championship this year.  The New York State Senate passed a resolution honoring the athletes for their victorious season. The team, along with coach Dan Ricci, made the trip to Albany to receive the resolution personally.The Ossining Pride Girls Basketball Team, for the second year in a row, captured the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class AA State Championship. On March 15, 2014, the Pride handily defeated their opponent, Cicero-North Syracuse 74-59, to win the title at the Hudson Valley Community College in Troy New York.

Senator Carlucci & Assemblywoman Galef Inform Constituents New Boating Safety Law Takes Effect

Assemblywoman Sandy Galef and State Senator David Carlucci announced that a new boating safety law takes effect in New York this week. The law was sponsored by Assemblywoman Galef and Senator Carlucci (Chapter 361 of 2013) and requires all operators of a mechanically propelled boat, born on or after 5/1/96, to hold a boating safety certificate, which would be granted following successful completion of an eight-hour boating safety course. New York State approved courses include those offered by New York State Parks, the U.S.

Currently ratepayers are left pleading with the Public Service Commission (PSC) to oppose rate increases which are constantly being approved by the Commission.

First a Desal Plant, Now a Rate Hike?

Last year, United Water asked for help funding a desalination plant without illustrating a need for the facility. Now the utility company is asking ratepayers for a rate hike while ignoring their own financial and managerial issues.

Rockland residents are already slammed with some of the highest property taxes in the nation while unemployment remains a serious concern throughout the region. Many families have tightened their belts to get through these tough economic times. 

Asking ratepayers to pay an additional 24.5% while United Water continues to NOT take steps towards tightening their own belt is unacceptable.

Carlucci, Zebrowski, and Jaffee Announce Passage of Rockland Bergen Flood Mitigation Task Force

Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester), Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski (D-New City), Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee (D-Suffern), and Suffern Mayor Trish Abato held a press conference with a coalition of New Jersey legislators, Assemblyman Eustace and Assemblywoman Schepisi, to announce the inclusion of the Rockland-Bergen Flood Mitigation Task Force in the 2014-15 New York State Budget. The elected officials stood with local residents from Rockland and New Jersey to discuss the creation of the Task Force and long term flood mitigation efforts.
