We need a specific plan in the event of an earthquake at Indian Point

In light of the horrific recent earthquake and tsunami that caused the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan to have explosions and cooling failures, I have called on Indian Point to make all safety reports available to the public as well as their earthquake contingency plan.

According to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Indian Point has the highest risk of earthquake damage in the country.

Indian Point provides 12 percent of all power generated statewide, but has long been a concern to residents in our area.  Given the recent tragedy in Japan, and the fact that Indian Point sits within two miles of two intersecting fault lines, we need to ensure that all possible safety measures are in place in the event of an emergency.

Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Administration, in its quest to relieve businesses and local governments of burdensome administrative mandates, contacted Senator David Carlucci, Chairman of the New York State Senate’s Administrative Regulations Review Commission (ARRC) for some hard-to-find information concerning the state’s regulatory review history. The request was part of a large mandate relief effort being undertaken by the Governor’s Mandate Relief Design Team. Reaching Out to Residents with Mobile Office Hours

As part of an ongoing effort to increase constituent outreach, I will be hosting mobile office hours throughout the district. During these mobile office hours I, or a staff member, will be available for residents to speak to regarding state-related matters.

These community mobile office hours make it easier for some local residents to discuss the issues that are important to them.  Convenient access to representatives is an important function of elected officials. It is essential that district residents are able to work with their legislators. Only by working together can we make our community the best possible place to live, work and raise a family.
