Illegal Scams Costs New Yorkers Millions of Dollars Each Year

 

HAVERSTRAW – Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Orange) today announced his plan to combat automobile insurance rate evasion, a fraudulent practice that costs New York taxpayers and ratepayers millions of dollars each year.  The senator has co-sponsored legislation (S.5695) that grants new authority to law enforcement personnel, while at the same time changes existing requirements relative to applying to register a vehicle and secure a drivers license in New York.

Senator Carlucci and Nyack Hospital Want to Help You Protect Yourself From the Flu

 Senator Carlucci and Nyack Hospital are offering a limited supply of free flu shots to residents ages 19 and up.  Please call Senator Carlucci’s office at 845-623-3627 to make an appointment.

Flu shots will be administered on November 3rd from 4-7 PM at the Haverstraw Community Center at 50 West Broad Street.

All residents receiving the flu shot must present valid ID.

Senator David Carlucci Brings the Spirit of Halloween to the Nyack Head Start

(Nyack, NY) Senator David Carlucci was at the Nyack Head Start getting the kids into the spirit of Halloween and talking to them about Halloween safety .  The Senator read Halloween books to the children who are ages 3-5 and distributed 800 trick or treat bags with safety tips and coloring books to Head Start programs throughout Rockland.

“Halloween is a fun holiday where children can let their imaginations run wild, but sometimes in the excitement, safety can be forgotten”  Senator Carlucci said.  “It was my pleasure to visit with the kids at the Nyack Head Start program and talk to them about how to stay safe and have fun this Halloween.  I wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween.”

Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Orange) has been named a member of the New York Farm Bureau’s Circle of Friends 2011 Legislative Session.

Senator Carlucci: Protecting Our Youth from Cyberbullying

In an effort to protect New Yorkers from online bullying, Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/ Orange) introduced a bill today that will make “bullycide” a felony.  The bill will expand second-degree manslaughter to include “bullycide”  or death by cyberbullying when a perpetrator intentionally or recklessly causes a victim to commit suicide, punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month I am encouraging students to participate in my “poster contest”  based on this year’s theme,  Many Backgrounds, Many Stories, One American Spirit. 

Posters should be no larger than 11 x 14 and prizes will be awarded throughout the 38th Senate district 1 per grade k – 5.  Entries will be picked up by October 19th.

New Yorkers Eligible for Grant Money to Replace Vital Household Appliances

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today launched an $8 million appliance grant program for those who sustained property damage as a result of Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.

The program will help New Yorkers cover the costs of replacing vital household appliances, such as refrigerators, boilers washing machines and furnaces, damaged by the recent flooding.

All grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis for completed applications, which will be available beginning Monday, September 19 at www.NYSApplianceRebates.com or by calling 1-877-NY-SMART (877-697-6278). The grant program will continue until funding runs out.

FEMA Recovery Center to Open Saturday September 10 in Pomona

A FEMA disaster recovery center will open on Saturday, September 10 at the Provident Bank Stadium in Pomona. FEMA representatives as well as personnel from the New York State Department of Labor and the Small Business Administration will be on hand to guide residents through the application process.
