Senator Carlucci Delivers for Nyack Plaza Residents Unable to Receive Mail for Months

NYACK- Senator Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) visited residents of Nyack Plaza to announce new mailboxes have been ordered for the complex this week. For months residents had to walk to the local post office to pick up their mail because the postal service would not deliver mail to the broken mailboxes due to security reasons.

The mailboxes were broken months ago due to an act of vandalism. The new boxes will allow USPS to deliver mail directly to the residents and will be installed in the next two weeks.

Senator David Carlucci learned of the sitatuion on a recent visit with Nyack Plaza Residents.

Senator Carlucci Announces Roadway Improvements for Orange Turnpike in Sloatsburg

SLOATSBURG- Senator Carlucci joined Sloatsburg Mayor Carl Wright and local resident George O'Dell to announce critical funding secured by the Senator to repair a dangerous section of Orange Turnpike, Route 17 in the Village of Sloatsburg.

The over 100 year old stone wall has been deteriorating in recent years causing a dangerous situation for motorists and pedestrians alike. Several car accidents have been reported in the area.

The issue was brought to the Senator's attention at a mobile office he held last year in the Village.

Senators Carlucci & Larkin joined Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries|Clarkson University President & CEO Dr. Timothy Sugrue in Stony Point today to announce $300,000 in funding to support the study of the Hudson River.

This monitoring network and its data management systems will change the landscape for both river science and the stewardship of New York’s waterways.

Senator Carlucci Hosts 3rd Annual Senior Fair

According to U.S. Census Data, there are more than 45,000 seniors residing within Rockland County alone. This amounts to nearly 15% of the county's total residential population.

Today Senator David Carlucci teamed up with Rockland Community College to host their third annual Senior Fair at the College. The Senior Fair was a unique opportunity for senior citizens to learn about new opportunities related to healthcare services, recreational and educational programming, non-profit assistance, financial services, and more.

This event allowed seniors to continue aging-in-place while taking advantage of the community-based services that make independent living possible

Senator Carlucci & Mental Health Association of Rockland to Offer safeTALK Suicide Prevention Class

With support from Senator David Carlucci, the Mental Health Association of Rockland is offering a free three-hour suicide prevention “safeTALK” class to the general community on Wednesday, September 10 from 9am to noon, with registration starting at 8:30.

SafeTALK is a model of teaching adults how to recognize warning signs of suicidal thinking and to engage in meaningful conversation with someone who may be at risk with the ultimate goal of connecting that person to more expert help.

Governor signs Senator Carlucci Bill to Simplify Voting in New York

Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) announced that his bill (S3553), was signed this week by the Governor (Chapter 289). The new law will simplify the process of obtaining an absentee ballot. It will now be easier for registered voters, who cannot be present at their polling place on Election Day, to vote. The legislation is designed to accommodate commuters, who would likely spend most of the day away from their county of residence, and people who are primary care providers or have a physical disability.

Life Saving Sunscreen Expiration Dates Pass Legislature

Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) passed legislation this year in the State Senate that provides expiration dates on sunscreen sold within New York State. The bill is meant to ensure New Yorkers are not using old, outdated sunscreen that has lost its ability to fight the sun’s UV rays.

According to the American Cancer Society, sunscreen is one of the single most effective methods to prevent forms of skin cancer, as over 800,000 new skin cancer cases of highly curable cancers are diagnosed per year. With the first day of summer behind us, these labels are especially important to inform consumers that sunscreen loses its effectiveness after a certain point.

Louis Engel Waterfront Park to Get Environmental Makeover

OSSINING- Senator David Carlucci (D-Westchester/Rockland) along with Ossining Town Supervisor Sue Donnelly, announced a new project intended to conserve water while saving the Town a significant cost for the John V. Chervokas Spray Park at the Louis Engel Waterfront Park in Ossining. Currently, water drained from the spray park is sent into the Hudson River. Failing to recycle this water is a missed opportunity to save most of the nearly $25,000 in annual water bills from this park alone.

Senator Carlucci & Rockland Sheriff Lou Falco Tackle Drunk Driving

Under current law the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles may restore driving privileges after five years, no matter how many DUIs (Driving Under the Influence) a driver receives.

Senator Carlucci joined Rockland Sheriff Lou Falco to support a piece of legislation that will close this dangerous loophole.

Senator Carlucci said, "This sends the wrong message to persistent offenders and to the public at large. We need to make sure that people who are repeat offenders, who have reckless disregard for the safety of pedestrians and other drivers by continuing to drive under the influence after their second DUI conviction, are taken off the roads permanently."

Senator Carlucci & Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe Expand Local Ability to Tackle Medicaid Fraud

ALBANY- The New York State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) continues to effectively fight fraud while improving integrity in our system while saving taxpayer dollars. In an effort to improve communication between the OMIG and other local agencies involved in the Medicaid fraud fight, Senator Carlucci worked to pass legislation that allows the OMIG the ability to share information to any prosecutor who has jurisdiction, including local District Attorneys.

The OMIG is currently only required to refer cases to the Deputy Attorney General for Medicaid Fraud. This keeps local District Attorneys out of the process and prevents them from prosecuting Medicaid fraud cases in their jurisdictions.

Senator Carlucci Passes Critical Legislation To Tackle Heroin Epidemic

As Vice Chair of the Senate’s Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Abuse, Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) authored the successful passage of two pieces of legislation that focus on prevention and treatment options for those who have fallen prey to the recent heroin epidemic.

At hearings across the State friends and family members of victims shared similar experiences of loved ones being denied outpatient treatment for their addiction.
