SENATOR CARLUCCI, STRAWTOWN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS PRESENT VALENTINES FOR VETERANS

SUFFERN, NY - Surrounded by scores of local veterans, Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) today hosted his third annual Valentines for Veterans celebration at the VFW Ramapo Post 2973 in Suffern.  The event is part of a national initiative that organizes local communities to send thousands of good wishes to veterans and service members each year. 

This year, Senator Carlucci hosted five students from Strawtown Elementary School to read and present over 500 of their handcrafted valentines and artwork to the more than 50 veterans who attended a special Veterans Advisory Committee meeting.  The group also led the group in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

HUDSON VALLEY STATE LEGISLATORS TO HOST JOINT LEGISLATIVE BUDGET HEARING

New York State Senators and Assemblymembers will co-host a joint legislative budget hearing in Rockland County to discuss Governor Cuomo’s 2013-2014 Executive Budget.  The event will take place this Thursday, February 14th from 3:00pm - 6:00pm at Valley Cottage Library, located at 110 Route 303. 

"This hearing will provide an opportunity for residents to gauge a better understanding of how state priorities will impact them on the local level," said Senator Carlucci. "I look forward to working with all stakeholders, advocates, and community leaders to make sure that their voices and input are heard in Albany."

FEMA to Buyout Each Residential Home Affected at 75% of Fair Market Value Prior to Hurricane Irene’s Landfall 

SUFFERN, NY – Suffern Mayor Dagan LaCorte (D-Suffern) and Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has agreed to buyout four homes in Rockland County that suffered severe damage in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. 

Both officials were also joined by homeowners Henny Guirguis and Salama Souzi, Sheila Cohen, Angela Sullivan Smith, and Jo Hallett.

SENATOR CARLUCCI PRAISES SENATE PASSAGE OF K-9 BILL TO PROTECT COPS, STRENGTHEN LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT

ALBANY, NY – Nearly one year after first introducing his bill aimed at strengthening local law enforcement, the New York State Senate today passed Senator Carlucci's bill (S.1993) that exempts police dogs from confinement if they bite a suspect in the course of their official duty.  The Senator had originally introduced the bill back in January, 2012.

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senator David Carlucci today was joined by a coalition of mental health advocates, physicians and patients to call on Governor Cuomo to reinstate “prescriber prevails” for atypical antipsychotics in the 2013-2014 state budget via the 21-day amendments. The group also urged the Governor and Legislature to restore “prescriber prevails” for all drug classes in the Medicaid budget.

Senator Carlucci Hosts Successful Flu Shot Clinic for Rockland Residents

NANUET, NY – In the midst of one of the most widespread flu seasons seen in nearly a decade, Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) today held a free flu shot clinic for Rockland County residents who have yet to be vaccinated. The event, held at Senator Carlucci’s district office in Nanuet, was conducted in partnership with Nyack Hospital, who provided on-site nursing staff and pharmacists to administer vaccines that guard against influenza.

Senator Carlucci to Host Senior Advisory Committee Meeting

NANUET, NYSenator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) tomorrow will kick off his first Senior Advisory Committee meeting of this New Year, which will be held from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Nanuet Library, located at 149 Church Street, Nanuet. The meeting is a chance for participants to address a range of issues and concerns affecting senior citizens throughout the Hudson Valley.  Ultimately, the goal is to translate these ideas into legislative action in Albany.

Senator David Carlucci Welcomes Ossining High School Students to Albany

ALBANY, NY - Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) on Monday welcomed students, teachers, and administrators from Ossining High School and the Ossining Board of Education to Albany for a tour of the State Capitol.  Visitors who met up with the Senator had the chance to observe the historic Senate chamber where the upper house of the state legislature conducts its daily business. 

The Senator also spoke about the importance of receiving a high school education and how this can translate into future success stories down the road.

SENATOR CARLUCCI, SENATE BIPARTISAN TASK FORCE FOR HURRICANE SANDY RECOVERY MEETS ON LONG ISLAND

The New York State Senate’s Bipartisan Task Force on Hurricane Sandy Recovery today visited communities on Long Island to tour storm damage and speak with local officials, business leaders, and individuals about the progress and challenges of the ongoing recovery efforts.

Today’s meeting focused on Hurricane Sandy’s impacts in Nassau and Suffolk counties and included tours of Freeport, Island Park, and Oceanside to view the extensive storm damage and recovery efforts. This was the second meeting of the Bipartisan Senate Task Force for Hurricane Sandy Recovery, which first met on December 10, 2012, in the Rockaways in Queens.

Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Orange) today visited Pascack Valley Learning Center in Airmont to join with students who helped raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.  He was joined by Mary Young, CEO of the American Red Cross, Metro North, Principal JoAnne Fratello and over 100 students who gathered in the school auditorium to deliver a check to the American Red Cross.
