SYRACUSE, N.Y.—State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) today announced that he has joined the Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction to examine the rise in use of heroin and other opioids in New York State and develop recommendations for treating and preventing addiction.
“These drugs are highly addictive and extremely dangerous, and the increase in use that we’re seeing is deeply troubling,” Senator Valesky said. “Action is needed, and through this task force, I am hopeful we can do our part from a legislative perspective.”
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Local lawmakers are backing a Federal bill to deter thieves from targeting people with smartphones.
State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, Syracuse Congressman Dan Maffei, Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner, Senator David Valesky and Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler were at Syracuse City Hall on Friday to announce Maffei’s co-sponsorship of a bill recently proposed in the United States House of Representatives that would require a kill switch on smartphones.
Schneiderman began the Secure Our Smartphones initiative to help combat “Apple Picking,” which is when thieves target popular devices such as smartphones and tablets.
ALBANY, N.Y.—The New York State Senate passed legislation co-sponsored by Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) that would increase the penalties for manufacturing methamphetamine. The growing use and manufacture of this illegal and highly addictive drug is particularly pervasive in rural counties in Upstate New York.
