SENATOR VALESKY, IDC RELEASE SENIOR AFFORDABILITY REPORT

State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida), Chair of the Senate Aging Committee,  along with his colleagues in the Independent Democratic Conference, released a report in support of the conference’s proposals making New York State more affordable for senior citizens. Each of these proposals were addressed in the Senate one-house budget resolution.

IDC Dems Set Senior Issues as a Top Priority

ALBANY - Members of AARP turned out at the State Capitol Wednesday to put a human face on the IDC budget proposals.

The measures have passed the State Senate, which puts them near the top of the pile of items being bartered behind closed doors as budget items are negotiated.

Town of Cicero to receive $100,000 state grant to build playground for children of all abilities

Town of Cicero -- The town of Cicero will receive a $100,000 grant from State Sen. David Valesky, D-Oneida, to install a community playground that will accommodate all children and their families, including those with special needs.

The playground will be built at Central Park, which is located 6540 Route 31, in Cicero. Central Park is 25 acres that already has public accessible restrooms, a pavilion, picnic tables, water fountain, security lighting and parking adjacent to the park.

SENATOR VALESKY, MEMBERS OF SENATE’S JOINT TASK FORCE ON HEROIN AND OPIOID ADDICTION RELEASE REPORT AND LEGISLATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS

State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida), a member of the Senate Joint Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction today joined colleagues in releasing a report summarizing the findings of statewide forums held to examine the issues surrounding the increase in drug abuse, addiction and drug-related crimes in New York. The report includes a comprehensive package of bills recommended for action this legislative session that target prevention, treatment, and enforcement issues raised during extensive testimony provided by dozens of experts, parents, and concerned New Yorkers.

ELDER ABUSE COALITION PARTNERS, SENATOR VALESKY JOIN TO FIGHT ELDER FINANCIAL ABUSE

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—Today, a coalition of advocates from the Syracuse Area Domestic & Sexual Violence Coalition's Elder Abuse & Justice Committees joined State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) to draw attention to the serious issue of elder financial abuse and to invite the community to a special presentation, “Physical & Financial Fitness,” in recognition of the 9th Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Senate Passes Valesky-Sponsored Elder Financial Abuse Legislation

Legislation sponsored by Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) protecting seniors from financial abuse passed the Senate today.

Sen. Valesky, chair of the Senate Aging Committee, released a report on May 6 that shows financial abuse amongst New York's seniors to be more prevalent than initially thought, with much higher rates of undocumented incidents that actually exist. Data obtained by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services project a surge in the number of cases of financial abuse by the year 2030, with nearly 200,000 incidents predicted to occur.
