Cazenovia — With barely one week left to go in the Budget Travel “Coolest Small Town in America” contest, the mayors of the top two vote-getting towns — Berlin, Md., and Cazenovia — have made a friendly wager on who will win.
The prize for the victor: craft beer from their hometown brewery.
“They have a local craft brewery there in Berlin that’s very popular, so the winner will receive a growler of beer — for them it’s Burly Oak Brewery, for us it’s Empire Brewing Company,” said Cazenovia Mayor Kurt Wheeler. “We thought this would be simple and inexpensive, but symbolic of both towns’ economies and hospitality industries.”

Town of Cicero -- The town of Cicero will receive a $100,000 grant from State Sen. David Valesky, D-Oneida, to install a community playground that will accommodate all children and their families, including those with special needs.
The playground will be built at Central Park, which is located 6540 Route 31, in Cicero. Central Park is 25 acres that already has public accessible restrooms, a pavilion, picnic tables, water fountain, security lighting and parking adjacent to the park.
Senator David J. Valesky joined Assemblyman Bill Magee, DEC Regional Director Ken Lynch, and Trout Unlimited for the opening of the new Chittenango Fishing Access site in Cazenovia on April 24. Senator Valesky noted for the local anglers that it looks like a great spot to catch some world-class trout.
Senator, Assemblyman Answer Mayor’s Call to Find $460,000 in State Capital Funding for New Ice Surface at Meachem Rink
SYRACUSE, N.Y. –State Senator David J. Valesky, Mayor Stephanie A. Miner, and Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli, standing in the center of the Meachem ice rink, announced $460,000 in state funding coming to the City of Syracuse to pay for a replacement of the existing rink with an ice mat. Senator Valesky secured $350,000. An additional $110,000 was received through Assemblyman Magnarelli. The Meachem ice rink closed earlier this year due to malfunctions in the ice cooling system, including pipe corrosion.
