Valesky-sponsored new law will help communities fight future projects like NYRI

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—To help prevent projects like New York Regional Interconnect (NYRI) that could decimate Upstate communities against the will of local people, State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) and Assemblywoman RoAnn M. Destito (D/WF-Rome) sponsored legislation signed into law this week that will make financial resources available to communities to make their voices heard.

 The legislation (S1599) resulted from the community outcry and subsequent defeat of the New York Regional Interconnect (NYRI) project in Oneida and Madison Counties.

New Law Will Give Communities Voices

NYRI. Those four letters will forever evoke feelings of anger and frustration throughout communities in Madison and Oneida counties. Though the upside of the NYRI fight and subsequent victory was the successful coalescence of residents to fight for their homes and communities, none of us want to be forced to go through that battle again.

SENATOR VALESKY HAILS PASSAGE OF FOURTH CONSECUTIVE ON-TIME STATE BUDGET

ALBANY, NY—State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) today lauded the passage of the state’s fourth and historic consecutive on-time budget. This has not been accomplished with the same Governor and legislative leaders in more than 40 years.
