This week, New York State took strong legislative action that represents real progress toward economic recovery in both the short and long term.

Continued declining tax revenues left the state with an approximate $3 billion mid-year deficit, which needed immediate attention to ensure payments to school districts and local municipalities and to protect the state from a downgrade in credit rating.

Electric Car Plant May Open in Syracuse By KATE GALBRAITH

New York State appears to be close to securing one of the nation’s first assembly plants for electric cars.

Reva, an electric car company based in Bangalore, India, plans to work with Bannon Automotive, a new electric car company in Freeport, N.Y., to assemble a three-door plug-in hatchback, the NXR, at a still-to-be-determined site near Syracuse.

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) delivered opening remarks at a workshop that provided details about application of the Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit, a law sponsored by Senator Valesky.

Senator Valesky Appointed to Advisory Board to Address Expanded Broadcast of Legislative Proceedings

ALBANY, N.Y.)--State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) was appointed to the Joint Advisory Board on the Broadcast of State Government Proceedings.

The eight-member, bi-partisan Joint Advisory Board will review how the Legislature can enhance the current Legislative TV Channel, launched in 2006, and provide more effective and informative programming about state government, based on the C-SPAN model.

Valesky-sponsored new law will help communities fight future projects like NYRI

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—To help prevent projects like New York Regional Interconnect (NYRI) that could decimate Upstate communities against the will of local people, State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) and Assemblywoman RoAnn M. Destito (D/WF-Rome) sponsored legislation signed into law this week that will make financial resources available to communities to make their voices heard.

 The legislation (S1599) resulted from the community outcry and subsequent defeat of the New York Regional Interconnect (NYRI) project in Oneida and Madison Counties.

Major Economic Development Initiative Is One of Seven Valesky Bills Signed into Law This Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—Businesses that have found it difficult to navigate state regulations or find available funding will now have a place to go for help, thanks to one of seven bills sponsored by State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) that were signed into law yesterday.

The legislation (S3076) creates regional “one-stop” economic development centers where business owners can learn about state programs that benefit their businesses and receive help in navigating sometimes complicated federal, state and local regulations, including licensing and permitting.
