Senator David J. Valesky Applauds Passage of Legislation to Enable Firefighters to Drive Trucks in Non-Emergency Situations

As Memorial Day weekend approaches, firefighters and fire trucks will continue to be a parade staple, thanks in part to legislation passed in the New York State Senate today.

The bill, S1624C, provides a clear exemption from federal regulations that require drivers of emergency vehicles to have a Commercial Drivers License. Though the Legislature partially rectified the issue in the Enacted Budget, further clarification was needed. Important duties performed by fire companies, such as training, inspections and parades, were not specifically exempted.

New York Senate Passes Good Government Legislation Sponsored by Senator David J. Valesky; Bill Prohibits State Agencies from Making Loans to Employees

SYRACUSE, N.Y.-- The New York State Senate passed legislation on May 12, sponsored by State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida), which would prohibit state agencies from making personal loans to employees.

The bill is the latest in a series of bills focused on good government and providing transparency and increased access to citizens.

Senator David J. Valesky's Bill Expanding Individual Access to State Records Signed into Law

SYRACUSE, N.Y.— The Governor of New York today signed into law new legislation sponsored by State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) that will allow individuals to request record covered by the Personal Privacy Protection Law through electronic mail.  Until now, a written request had to be submitted by an individual to receive information the state may maintain about that person.

Senator Valesky Statement on News that NYRI has Withdrawn Its PSC Application

As a strong and vocal opponent of NYRI, I am pleased that they have at last decided to withdraw their petition from the PSC. Though it is necessary to address New York State's aging power infrastructure, I firmly believe it should not be done at the detriment of our Upstate communities. The power line would have cut through the hearts of those communities and resulted in increased power costs for Upstate. Today, I am happy that the residents of those communities in Madison and Oneida counties can rest easy knowing this project has been defeated.

New York Senate Passes Legislation Sponsored by Senator David J. Valesky Supporting Craft Brewers

SYRACUSE, N.Y.--The New York State Senate today passed legislation, sponsored by State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida), which would give smaller brewers the ability to offer packaged or bottled beer for sale or tasting at farmers markets, county fairs and the New York State Fair.

The bill, passed 60-1, provides brewers producing less than 60,000 barrels of beer annually with additional outlets to sell their product and to educate the public about their small craft beers. Similar provisions have already been granted to wineries and farm wineries.

Senate MTA Plan Comes with Commitment for Upstate
