State Legislature Passes Skelos Legislation To Create Free Market In Ticket Resales

New York State Senate Deputy Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) and Assemblyman Joseph D. Morelle (D-Irondequoit) today announced passage in both houses of the New York State Legislature of legislation removing many of the current restrictions regarding the resale, or “scalping”, of tickets for entertainment and sports events.The bill (A.07526A/S.3857A) eliminates the present cap on ticket resale prices, effectively establishing a free marketplace for such transactions.

Senate Passes Skelos Bill To Expand And Enhance Dna Database

The New York State Senate today will act on legislation (S.5848), sponsored by Senator Dean Skelos (R, Rockville Center) that would expand the State’s DNA database to include samples from every person convicted of a crime. The bill will also improve the methods for collection and preservation of DNA evidence and extend the statute of limitations for cases based on DNA evidence."The DNA databank is a powerful tool that law enforcement can use to prosecute criminals and protect victims," Senator Dean Skelos said.

Skelos And Hannon Honor State Champion Malverne Basketball Team

Senator Dean Skelos and Senator Kemp Hannon presented the Malverne High School Mules basketball team with Senate Resolutions and a banner in recognition of their winning the 2007 Class B Federation Championship earlier this year. Also present were the school principal, superintendent and administrators. The Senators also presented the team with a banner to hang in the high school gymnasium.

Skelos And Englebright Announce Legislation Creating Incentives To Purchase Environmentally-friendly Vehicles

Consumer Reports, however, even the “most cost-effective models require an investment of about five years for the owner to break even.” This legislation will reduce this cost recovery period.The state tax credit for the purchase of hybrid vehicles expired in 2005. The federal government provided a personal income tax deduction of up to $2,000 for hybrid vehicles purchased in 2004 and 2005. In 2006, the federal tax deduction converted to a tax credit the amount of which depends on the make and model of the vehicle and the date on which it was purchased.

Long Island’s State Senate Delegation today held a press conference with a Mineola family to discuss the negative impact of Governor Spitzer’s Executive Budget on local property taxpayers. The Governor’s proposed budget shortchanges Long Island schools by $68 million and raises property taxes for hundreds of thousands of Nassau and Suffolk County homeowners.Last year, Long Island homeowners saved over $700 million through the School Property Tax Relief ("STAR") program and received $210 million in school tax rebate checks from the state.
