Colonel Barry of Rockville Centre has an exemplary military record and has demonstrated a true and unwavering commitment to his country. Commissioned through the Reserve Training Corps at St. Bonaventure University in 1968, Colonel Barry is a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, the Field Artillery and Transportation Officer Advanced Course and the United States Naval Transportation Management School as well as the Command and General Staff College.

SENATOR SKELOS HONORS DEBBIE CUEVAS AS 2011 WOMAN OF DISTINCTION

Debbie Cuevas’ name is synonymous with compassion and perseverance. After her son Dylan was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), Ms. Cuevas was determined to overcome every obstacle and devote her time and energy to her son and the community at large.

Ms. Cuevas is mother, friend, nurse, caregiver, physical therapist, SMA activist, and much more rolled into one. A true pioneer, Ms. Cuevas founded the Greater New York Chapter of Families of SMA in 2006, as a way to give back to her community. As President of The Greater New York Chapter of Families of SMA, Ms. Cuevas is instrumental in serving over 500 families who have been affected by Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Thomas G. Seifert

First Sergeant Thomas Seifert has had a distinguished 18 year career of service to the New York State Army National Guard. During his time with the New York National Guard First Sergeant Thomas Seifert has led his men on an off of the battle field. On September 11, 2001, as Squad Leader of B Company, 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment of the 42nd Infantry Division to the site of the World Trade Center disaster to provide assistance. Later in 2001 and through 2002, First Sergeant Seifert once again led B Company, as Squad Leader during Operation Nobel Eagle at United States Military Academy at West Point.
