I’m happy to report that the state senate just finished passing a fiscally responsible, on-time state budget. Working in a bi-partisan manner, this budget provides property tax relief to middle-class families, provides $1 billion in additional aid to schools, including over $600 million to close the Gap Elimination Adjustment, and provides a strong foundation to create jobs and provide every New Yorker with the opportunities they need to be successful. Please take a brief minute to watch my remarks on this years budget.
I am proud to be leading the fight to help completely eliminate the GEA school aid budget cuts once and for all. This effort is designed to protect our local schools from harmful cuts in State education aid. This will not only ensure more resources for classroom instruction and quality programs, but will also help us to achieve our goal of ensuring an outstanding education for every child, in every school.
