gnyback May 20, 2009 The Downtown Staten Island Council is kicking off it's fifth annual Drive-In Movies event Thursday night.
Closing in on the fifth year of the Downtown Staten Island Council's Drive-In Movies, the non-profit organization will hold a kickoff for the event tomorrow night at Da Noi Restaurant at 138 Fingerboard Road in Fort Wadsworth.
Senator Diane J. Savino spoke at the John D. Calandra Italian American Institute's 30th Year Anniversary, on November 30, 2009.
The Institute works to foster higher education among Italian-Americans. Senator Savino spoke about the importance of promoting the rich cultural and intellectual history of Italians and Italian Americans.
TUCKAHOE, NY – State Senator Diane Savino (D-Staten Island/Brooklyn), State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), and representatives from the Westchester Italian Cultural Center and the Sons of Italy announced the restoration of the NYS Italian Regents high school exam at a rally on Thursday. Last week the NYS Senate saved the exam from extinction when it passed the final piece of this year’s budget. Attendees rallied in support of this important achievement and to celebrate Italian culture.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The incoming new boss of the Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden is a 37-year-old former Staten Islander, an urban planner who spearheaded the redevelopment of Coney Island.
State Sen. Diane Savino said yesterday she got to know Ms. Kelly over the past few years and called her "a wonderful addition to Staten Island," adding, "She has a fabulous relationship with City Hall and I'm very happy that she's coming over to this side of the bridge."
