State Senator Brings her Office to Staten Islanders

Staten Island's state Sen. Diane Savino brought her office to the people today by setting up shop at the St. George Ferry Terminal.

Complete with a "Ferry Service Report Card," ferry riders who stopped by the "mobile district office" were able to fill out a survey and voice their opinions about commuter service.

At a table set up in the middle of the terminal, riders got the chance to talk with constituent caseworkers and representatives about any issues and concerns they need help with.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A ride along the Brooklyn-bound Staten Island Expressway between Bradley Avenue and Todt Hill Road has always seemed like driving through molasses, between the uphill crawl and the clog of cars coming and going on poorly placed exit and entrance ramps.

Now it feels like driving through molasses that's stuck to a washboard.

A long line of badly patched potholes forms a tire-width strip along the right and middle lanes, roughly between exits 11 and 12.

ALBANY - Several state lawmakers warned Tuesday they intend to soften mayoral control over the schools - and urged Mayor Bloomberg and Chancellor Joel Klein to get on board.
