Duane officials favor taller cell towers

DUANE — A cell-phone tower at the Duane Fire Hall is caught in an Adirondack tall-tower quandary.

Verizon Wireless began working with the Duane Fire Company to engineer the project in 2007.

APA, wireless reps, elected leaders hold what they say is a productive meeting

Betty Little says she's worried that the cost of putting up a cell tower in the Adirondacks is keeping wireless companies and cell phone providers from making additional investments inside the Blue Line.

Verizon pulls Duane plan, hoping for taller tower

— DUANE — Another public-safety incident is raising serious questions about cellular-phone service in the heart of Franklin County.On Sunday, a woman from Rainbow Lake in her late 60s went skiing along the Horse Brook Trails in Duane, according to Gil Paddock, second assistant fire chief for Duane Volunteer Fire Department.“She went to walk her dog and got her vehicle stuck trying to get out.”

Duane tower caught in communication gap

DUANE — Adirondack Park Agency staff issued a permit for an 80-foot cell-phone tower in Duane that may not allow emergency officials to comply with international communication regulations.

And it seems to have come without the applicant's final review.

The Duane tower was in motion through APA when Verizon Wireless started looking to accommodate other carriers after a meeting with local officials and APA staff last month.

APA to ease permit process for ‘horizontal co-location’ of cell towers

RAY BROOK - The state Adirondack Park Agency wants to ease the permitting process for installing a second cell tower in a site that already has an APA-approved cell tower.

The agency's Regulatory Programs Committee got its first look Thursday at a draft general permit geared for the "horizontal co-location" of cell towers.
