NEW YORK – Today, State Senator Daniel Squadron joined community and elected officials and advocates to urge a special legislative session in Albany to address the crisis of gun violence in New York City and around the state.
This year, 1,329 people have been injured or killed by guns in New York City alone. Early Monday morning, a young man was shot in the leg on the grounds of Campos Plaza; the perpetrator has not been indentified and remains on the loose.
Senator Adams attended the Berkeley Carroll School Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in Park Slope, where he toured the school's new facilities and met the school administration, teachers, parents and students. Weprin, Assemblyman Jim Brennan, and were proud to stand alongside Leslie Grubler, founding director of UNYEIP, to protest the New York City Department of Education’s Committee on Pre-School Special Education’s decision to abruptly suspend critical services for pre-school special needs children in New York City without appropriate notice to parents or providers.

NYS Senator Eric Adams held a press conference to announce the launching of the “Hope Academy,” a new non-profit organization that will teach at-risk youth how to use mixed martial arts skills to address violence. Senator Adams and various ultimate fighting trainers demonstrated some of the fighting techniques that will be used during the anti-violence pilot program.
Senator Adams was the guest speaker for the Fatherhood/Brotherhood Initiative Movement, where he spoke about the importance of fathers involved in their children's lives, the importance of family values and ethics, and the need for father’s involvement in community affairs.
