When Black Men Pray Event

Senator Adams was one of the guest speakers at St. Paul's Community Baptist Church for their "When Black Men PrayCommunity March Event."  In light of the Trayvon Martin tragedy, the program that followed the march was entitled, "Something For Trayvon."  Senator Adams presented his powerpoint presentation "What To Do When Stopped By The Police"  As a former member of law enforcement and current legislator, Senator Adams shared his vast knowledge and experience on this very important issue of the Stop, Question and Frisk Procedure.  The powerpoint presentation is available on this official website.

Officer Brennan honored in Senate Chambers

New York City Police Officer Brennan of Bushwick, Brooklyn, was honored in Albany.  While on the line of duty, he was shot in the base of his skull, almost near death chasing a wanted suspect in Brooklyn.

Senator Adams hosts, "A Conversation..."

Senator Adams held roundtable discussion about Trayvon Martin tragedy and the consequences of "Stand Your Ground" legislation (S. 281) becoming law in New York State.  The panel was moderated by Jennifer L. Senator Adams advocates for "Briana's Law"

Senator Adams and Assemblyman Ortiz, with the parents of Briana Ojeda held a press conference calling for the passage of Briana's Law S. 3974/A.1544.  Briana Ojeda, an 11 year old girl, passed away in August 2010.  Briana suffered an asthma attack while playing in Carroll Gardens Park and was en route to the hospital when her mother was stopped by a police officer.  Briana's Law will require that all police men and women, across New York State, be retrained in CPR and first aid every two year after they join the force.

Senator Adams and NYS State Senate commemorates Anthony Whitaker's photograph "Steel Standing"

Senator Adams is joined with photographer Anthony Whitaker, and other elected officials of the NYS Senate.  His photo, "Steel Standing" captured the World Trade Center after the devastating 911 attacks. The artist-graphic designer explains,“The physical essence was so strong, as if it was saying, ‘I am steel,’ because that’s what it was, and ‘I am standing,’ because that’s what it was doing.  So, he named it ‘Steel Standing.’ “With a click of his camera, Whitaker, a Con Edison engineer by trade, documented the World Trade Center at the nation’s crossroads of devastation and determined resolve and heroism and hell on earth."
