Senator Adams voted "yes" for the Erin Merryn's law today.
The legislation, “Erin Merryn's Law,” (S.6182 Klein/ A.8993 Dinowitz), would require schools to make a change to their existing curriculum for child abduction to include age appropriate information on child sex abuse prevention. This alteration would give critically important information to victims – many of whom do not know there is a way out of their horrific situation.
Today my Senate Democratic Colleagues and I held a press conference calling for the immediate passage of urgently necessary Campaign Finance Reform legislation. We were joined by dozens of representatives from good government groups and campaign finance activists to send this message to our Republican colleagues: “Bring the 2012 Campaign Finance Reform Act to the floor and bring it now!”
Senator Adams states:"This Bill will not authorize the issuance of Tasers to every transit authority employee. Instead, it will change current law to grant the MTA and Amtrack the right to decide whether to implement a pilot program that includes the use of Tasers.
Senator Adams attended the community tribute for Zurana Horton, mother of 13 who was shot to death in front of a Brooklyn Public School while saving her children from gunfire. "A SHERO From Around The Way" was the theme for the tribute, that was hosted by a committee of Brownsville residents, concerned citizens, clergy, friends and activists.
Senator Adams joined the Members of the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus to express their collective displeasure at the districts drawn by Senate Republicans. These lines crack and pack minorities with blatant disregard to communities of interest and in some instances county lines. The Caucus sees it as an unparalleled power grab by the Senate Republicans to maintain their current strong holds and dilute the power of minority communities.

NYS Senator Eric Adams and community leaders sent a letter to Timothy Cardinal Dolan to request a meeting with him to solicit his voice around the NYPD stop and frisk practices. The group will also speak with the Cardinal about the police policies of spying on Muslim groups. The meeting is not without precedent. As a police officer, Senator Adams solicited the help of Cardinal O’Connor to addressed tensions between the communities of color and the NYPD.

The Senate Republicans have decided to honor Whitney Houston for her contributions when the Legislature returns from its two-week mid-winter break.
In addition, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie ordered that flags be flown half staff on state government buildings on the day of Whitney Houston's funeral. Although his decision is receiving much criticism, Governor Christie plans to sign an executive order to honor Ms. Houston.
“I was rejected by the GOP on my request for a resolution honoring the life of singer Whitney Houston. Reportedly, there was uneasiness about saluting someone who may have died of a drug overdose, and that Houston had no real local ties to New York.
Houston donated proceeds from the re-release of her 1991 rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” to 9/11 responders. What message do we send when we honor our football champions for actions on the football field, yet we don't give acknowledgment to those who help the soldiers that have fallen on the battle field?
