Statement of NYS Senator Eric Adams
New York City Off Track Betting Corporation has been running an unsustainable financial deficit, and it has filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy as a necessary step towards its continuance as a viable entity. As Chairman of the NYS Senate Committee on Racing, Gaming and Wagering, I endorse the petition as the best available alternative to a cessation of NYC OTB operations.

Quote from NYS Senator Eric Adams concerning NYC OTB layoffs: “Despite the most harrowing economic conditions since the Great Depression, NYC OTB has notified the New York State Department of Labor that it intends to dismiss 1,320 workers. With unemployment running at an extraordinarily high level, it is regrettable that NYC OTB has begun implementing a plan to wind down the corporation’s operations before it has submitted to the legislature any fully drafted course of action.
New York State Senator Eric Adams, Chairman, convened a meeting of his Senate Committee on Racing, Gaming and Wagering at 9:30 AM Tuesday, February 9, 2010 in Room 124 of the Capitol.
