The State Senate Democrats Deserve

The breakaway faction owes voters better

BY ERIC ADAMS

Sadly, New Yorkers have grown used to the dysfunction in Albany. But whereas in recent years it was merely individual bills that were sidelined by its power struggles, now it's entire groups being marginalized as well.

Laughably, this was done in the name of "bipartisanship" last week when six Democratic state senators broke away from their party's caucus to form a new leadership coalition with Republicans.

December Constituent of the Month: Dr. Tolonda Tolbert

Dr. Tolonda Tolbert has been living in Lefferts Gardens for the past 10 years. She fell in love with the “old-school” community feel of the diverse neighborhood, where people watch out for each other’s children and can often be found sitting with a neighbor on the stoop with a glass of wine during the summer.

December is National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month

Dear Constituents:

It is December, and the Holidays are upon us yet again. While the end of the year is a festive time, full of celebration and cheer, it is still necessary for everyone to remain alert, especially as people travel near and far to celebrate the holidays with loved ones. For this reason, the month of December has been designated as National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month.

Every day, people put themselves and other motorists in danger on roadways when they drive after consuming alcohol or after using legal and illegal drugs. During this holiday season, we should all be observant, in an effort to protect our families, friends, and neighbors from drivers who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Joint Statement from State Senator Eric Adams and Councilman Jumaane Williams

"Law enforcement has heard our plea, and we commend them for their swift and responsive action.  This is a great example of what is possible when the NYPD engages in good coordinated police work.  A suspect, Salvatore Perrone, has been identified, apprehended and charged with the murder of 3 Brooklyn shopkeepers of Middle Eastern descent.  While nothing can replace the lives of Mohammed Gebeli, Isaac Kadare and Rahmatollah Vahidipour, hopefully some comfort will be gained knowing that this murderer is off our streets. Additionally, we plan to convene a meeting with retailers in the next couple of days to renew our call for the installation of surveillance cameras in their establishments."
