Sen Adams Calls on Mayor Bloomberg to Close Public Schools to Stem the Possible Spread of the H1N1 Virus

NYS Senators Eric Adams, Chairman of the Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee and Hiram Monserrate call on Mayor Michael Bloomberg to close NYC public schools on Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22 as a precautionary measure against the spread of the H1N1 virus that has caused such great concern over the past month.  This creates a 5-day window to insure a safe environment and inform parents about prevention techniques, both designed to stem any possible spread of the H1N1 virus.

SENATORS LAUNCH PUSH FOR STRONGER RENT LAWS

NYS Senator Eric Adams states: “New York State government has had power over New York City rent laws since 1971. This had resulted in a dramatic weakening of rent regulations. In 1997, for example, Republican Governor George Pataki and a Republican-controlled State Senate capitulated to heavy landlord lobbying and campaign contributions and enacted vacancy decontrol, a method used to deregulate rent stabilized apartments. Tens of thousands of affordable rent regulated apartments have become expensive market rentals.
