Senator Adams in the News: For Starters, New York, Embrace Early Voting

For starters, New York, embrace early voting

Election Day was a mess. We need to make it far easier to cast a ballot.

BY ERIC ADAMS

In a testament to New York's resolve, thousands of our citizens struggled bravely through chaos and despair this month after Sandy smashed into our city. But it wasn't just the hurricane that wrought confusion and disorder. Adding insult to injury, one week after the storm, New Yorkers also had to deal with the mess that was our election.

Somehow, despite the long lines and frustration, most who wanted to still managed to vote. But the need for real election reform has never been more obvious.

November is National Diabetes Month

The brisk winds of fall are blowing steadily, and as we near the day of Thanksgiving, I would like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous holiday. The Thanksgiving holiday is one where food takes center stage, and while indulging every now and then is no issue, it is important to monitor your food intake. As November has been designated as National Diabetes Month, I wish to take this time to educate everyone about the risk factors and warning signs of this disease. Diabetes can lead to severe health problems and complications such as heart disease, stroke, vision loss, kidney disease, nerve damage, and amputation. Type 1 diabetes, which can occur at any age but is most often diagnosed in young people, is managed by a lifetime of regular medication or insulin treatment.

Senator Adams' Statement re: Suspending Alternate Parking Until the Gas Shortage Has Ended

Senator Adams’ statement:

“Mayor Bloomberg should suspend alternate side parking in NYC until the gasoline shortage has ended.  As a result of Hurricane Sandy, many New Yorkers have experienced great hardships, including a limited supply of gasoline.  Moving vehicles from side to side or double parking cars forces citizens to unnecessarily utilize the limited among of gas that they may have.  Additionally, sanitation personnel can be more productively utilized to assist with cleanup efforts.  We should be sensitive to the conditions faced by our fellow New Yorkers as they strive to put the pieces of their lives back together again."
