Karaoke Toy Drive Collects Toys for Children in Kings County Hospital

Senator Adams, in partnership with District Leaders Jesse Hamilton, Shirley Patterson, Robert Cornegy, Olanike Alabi and Walter Mosley, hosted a Karaoke Toy Drive at 2 Steps Down.  The event was a great success – guests donated many toys that were given to children at Kings County Hospital and donated to the Pediatrics ICU, and a fun evening was had by all.

Senator Adams Celebrates 41st Bangladesh Victory Day

Senator Adams was one of the special invited guests to attend the 41st Bangladesh Victory Day Celebration, where he congratulated and celebrated with the people of Bangladesh in Brooklyn during the commemoration of Bangladesh's independence from Pakistan. The Senator presented a proclamation to Abu Naser Khaliquzzaman, a community business leader who strives to facilitate better understanding between the United States and the rest of the Muslim World.

Senator Adams Joins Cyberbullying Initiative in NYC Charter Schools

New York City Charter School Center, through a partnership with Senator Klein, Assemblyman Scarborough, Senator Adams and Kaitlin Monte, Miss New York 2011, administered a survey, “Click, Comment and Create Change,” to 3rd- and 4th-graders at the New Beginnings Charter School in Bedford-Stuyvesant.  The answers to the survey will be used to gather data that will help form the legislation to crack down on the problem of online bullying. Senator Adams and Senator Klein spoke to a group of 8- to 10-year-olds about the problems of excessive online chatter and the role they can play as young leaders in advising their peers about proper cyber etiquette.

Senator Eric Adams issued "Clergy Crisis Response Jackets" to the "The God Squad" 67th Precinct Clergy Council

Today, Senator Eric Adams issued "Clergy Crisis Response Jackets" to the members of Brooklyn's 67th Precinct Clergy Council, nicknamed "The God Squad"  The membership is comprised of local pastors and ministers who participate in activities that assist the community, advise on community concerns and support the personnel of the 67th Precinct.  The 67th Precinct Clergy Council Crisis Team’s new initiative will dispatch 10-man teams in high crime areas to visit victims’ families, provide prayer and spiritual counsel, and help improve interactions between the community and law enforcement.   This initiative will facilitate a beneficial working relationship between clergy, law enforcement and community.

Senator Adams Serves as Panelist for NAN's Death Penalty Discussion

Senator Adams was a guest panelist for the National Action Network's Death Penalty Panel Discussion.  There has been a lot of controversy surrounding this issue recently, particularly relating to the execution of Troy Davis.

According to the Death Penalty Information Center, there were a  total of 1271 executions between 1976 and 2011. Although New York State has abolished its death penalty, there are 34 states in this country that still apply the death penalty as a means of punishment.  In 2008, Senator Adams voted against S.4632, which was legislation introduced to reinstate the death penalty in New York State.

Senator Adams Celebrates Seniors at Marcus Garvey Residential Rehab Pavilion

Senator Adams attended the Marcus Garvey Residential Rehab Pavilion Appreciation Breakfast, where he greeted the seniors and the administration of the nursing home, and gave special happy birthday wishes to two seniors who celebrated the milestone of being over 100 years old.

Senator Adams Keynotes DTAP/ComAlert Graduation

Senator Adams was the keynote speaker for the Drug Treatment Alternative-to-Prison (DTAP)/ComAlert Graduation.  Programs provided through the Office of the Kings County District Attorney, Charles Hynes, DTAP is a residential drug treatment and re-entry program for formerly incarcerated individuals and ComAlert provides formally incarcerated individuals with housing, education, substance abuse treatment, physical and mental health counseling and employment.  The Senator offered congratulations and gave encouragement to the programs' graduates.

Community Safety Meeting Regarding Security Cameras

Senator Adams hosted a community safety meeting for the Prospect Lefferts Gardens community where representatives of Secure Watch 24 discussed how community residents can obtain security cameras for the community. In addition, Karl Cohen from the 71st Precinct Community Council introduced the Civilian Observation Patrol Program and recruited residents to be a part of the program.

Celebration of Praise & Thanksgiving @ Brooklyn College

Senator Eric Adams, along with Congressman Edolphus Towns, Senator John Sampson, Assemblyman Karim Camara, Councilwoman Letitia James, Councilman Jumaane D.Williams and Healthfirst, sponsored the annual Celebration of Praise & Thanksgiving gospel concert at the Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts.  Various gospel soloists and ensembles showcased their talent and expressed thanksgiving through song and dance.

Senator Adams, Senator Klein, other elected officials and organizations advocate for foreclosure prevention services funding

Senator Eric Adams, Senator Jeffrey Klein and other elected officials held a press conference to call upon the Governor to include funding for foreclosure prevention services in the 2012-2013 budget.  Last year, the budget did not include any funding for foreclosure prevention services.  Many New Yorkers are facing foreclosure on their homes, affecting communities all over the State.

Realizing the importance of giving and appreciation, Senator Eric Adams distributed turkeys to churches and senior centers in the 20th Senate District for the Thanksgiving holiday.  Local senior centers and places of worship identified those persons in need, and assisted in helping those families enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday despite the challenging economic times.

Senator Adams, Civil Rights Atty. Norman Siegel and OWS Hold Press Conference About Possible Violations of NYPD Procedures During 11/15 Clearing of Zuccotti Park

On November 20, Senator Eric Adams, Civil Rights Attorney Norman Siegel, and members of Occupy Wall Street (OWS) held a press conference to release a letter that they sent to Mayor Michael Bloomberg requesting answers to possible violations of NYPD procedures in regard to vouchering property which was confiscated from OWS protesters, and the alleged mishandling of the press.  It is the group's belief that during the November 15th retaking of Zuccotti Park, the City and NYPD violated several policies by removing property from protesters without issuing receipts, and preventing press access to the park.
