Senator Adams Visits Community Organizations Working to End Violence

On Thursday, September 22, Senator Adams visited several local community organizations that address anti-violence initiatives.  Pictured above, Senator Adams meets with the team at Man Up, Inc., which specializes in conflict resolution on the streets via Cease Fire ENY BK, School/Neighborhood Watch, after school and summer programs, and other community programs.  Below, the Senator visits wtih Save Our Streets (S.O.S.) Crown Heights, an organization that works with a wide range of community partners, organizing BBQs, concerts, sporting events, rallies, and other events intended to strengthen our community and bring an end to gun violence.

Senator Montgomery, Senator Adams & Education Leaders Announce Brooklyn Launch of "Smart Scholars" Early College High School Program

NYS Senator Montgomery supported by Senator Adams, Assemblymember Hakeem Jeffries, Assemblymember Annette Robinson, Councilmember Letitia James and Councilmember Albert Vann at Long Island University with Brooklyn high school principals, college presidents, students, state education officials and union leaders announced the start of four new Smart Scholars Early College High School (ECHS) programs in Brooklyn, NY.  There are currently 27 high school/college partnerships in New York State serving over 5,000 students.  In 2009, eleven (11) were formed with the aid of a $6 million grant from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Groundbreaking for New Parkside Playground

State Senator Eric Adams recently joined Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, City Councilmember Mathieu Eugene, Jannie Johnson of the Parkside Avenue Block Association and members of the Flatbush community to break ground on the Parkside Playground.The nearly $3 million project includes the installation of new basketball courts and brand new play equipment. The project has been made possible by a generous allocation of $2.45 million from Council Member Mathieu Eugene and $517,000 from Mayor Bloomberg.

NYS Senator Eric Adams in partnership with Youth America Inc., Healthfirst and PSCH convened the 5th Annual "Cradle to College Parent Empowerment Seminar" on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 12:00pm - 3:00pm. 

Dozens of workshops were presented by content area specialists who shared their expertise on a variety of topics, including career choices, jobs, health, nutrition, financial literacy, public safety and education.  Parents were provided with a vast array of resources that will enable them to guide their children on the path to success.

NYS Senator Eric Adams Introduces Legislation Which Will Compel The Reporting Of The Death Or Disappearance Of A Minor To Law Enforcement Within 24 Hours

In light of the trial of Casey Anthony, who failed to report the disappearance of her daughter Caylee Anthony for 31 days, Senator Eric Adams, who served in the New York Police Department for 22 years before retiring at the rank of Captain, has introduced legislation (Senate bill 5858) that would compel the reporting of the death or disappearance of a minor to law enforcement within 24 hours of such event.
