"It is an historic day for New York and the nation now that President Obama has nominated Judge Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. A native of the South Bronx who has served as a federal judge, prosecutor and litigator, Judge Sotomayor is a brilliant, independent jurist who is uniquely qualified to serve on the highest court. Once she becomes the first Latina and only third woman to serve on the Court, Judge Sotomayor will bring a new, much-needed perspective to the bench.
SYRACUSE – In a continuing effort to find common ground on criminal justice issues across New York State, Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) hosted Senator Eric Schneiderman (D-Manhattan/Bronx), Chairman of the Senate Codes Committee, for a day of events Monday in Madison and Onondaga counties.
With Attorney General Cuomo, Sens. Foley, Sampson and Flanagan announcing the TRUST ACT, a bipartisan bill to end the sole trustee system for the New York's pension fund in order to prevent future "pay-to-play" scandals.
Sen. Schneiderman introduced Ian's Law in the New York State Senate to protect patients from egregious insurance industry practices. Among other things, it makes it illegal for insurers to drop entire classes of insurance as a pretext to deny coverage to individual policyholders.
