CONTROLLING MEDICAID SPENDING AND ROOTING OUT FRAUD KEY FOR NEW YORK’S LONG-TERM FISCAL HEALTH

New York’s Medicaid spending has risen to a point that it is now simply unsustainable. New York spends an estimated $52 billion a year on Medicaid- that’s astounding $1 billion a week. Future projections have state spending for Medicaid increasing by 37 percent over the next five years costing New Yorkers approximately an additional $5 billion.

JUMPSTARTING NEW YORK’ S ECONOMY THROUGH JOB CREATION

The economic woes facing our nation and state have placed tremendous strain and immense challenges on New York small businesses and middle class families.  Last year alone, New York State lost 270,000 jobs in the private sector and unemployment in the state and city continues to climb. For all the promise of results, the federal stimulus package has failed to yield any progress towards improving New York’s economic and job climate.

Fighting To Protect Our Community, Help Repeal The Seal

Over the past few years, the State Legislature has proactively and consistently enacted  laws strengthening public safety by requiring background checks for numerous position of trust such as teachers, nursing home aides and day care center workers. 

Now that progress is in jeopardy with a soon-to-be enacted dangerous provision that was included in the state budget.  As you may be aware, considerable attention and debate has been focused on this provision that will be implemented into law on June 8th.

Congratulations All Winners and Participants of the Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Parade Organization Art and Essay Contest

I would like to extend my congratulations to all the participants and winners of the annual Little Neck-Douglaston Parade Ogranization's Art and Essay Contest. Many of the winners were on hand to recieve their awards during a cermony on Friday May 15th at Fort Totten. The themes this year ranged from "Our Country" in the art portion to "Preserving Our Nation" in the essay portion of the contest.

State Budget Reckless and Fiscally Irresponsible

Following days of secretive budget negotiations between Governor Paterson, Speaker Silver and Senate Majority Leader Smith a stack of budget bills over a foot high were revealed to the State Legislature and the public that pack an enormous wallop to New York’s middle-class families and small businesses. Simply put the budget embraced by the three-men-in-a-room is highly reckless, fiscally irresponsible and will only continue New York’s fiscal woes.
