Padavan Honors Pauline Chu as 2008 "Woman of Distinction"

Senate Passes Padavan's Anit-Graffiti Legislation

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that the State Senate has passed his legislation that would significantly increase criminal penalties for graffiti related offenses.

The legislation (S.7072) amends the state Penal Law by establishing the new criminal offense of making graffiti in the second degree. This new offense would be classified as a class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison or a fine.

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that four local grade and middle school students have been awarded with statewide recognition for their school projects aimed at increasing awareness and proposing solutions to environmental challenges.

The students were honored for their work in the state Senate’s 17th Annual I*MA*GREEN*NATION competition.

Senate Passes Bill Providing Business Tax Credit For Alternative Energy Systems

The New York State Senate today passed legislation, co-sponsored by Senator Frank Padavan (Queens), that would establish a tax credit for alternative energy systems and generating equipment. The legislation is one of a number of legislative initiatives in the state Senate designed to increase availability of alternative energy sources throughout New York state.

Senate Passes Extension of Property Tax Abatement for Co-ops adn Condos in NYC

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that the State Senate has passed his legislation that would extend the current property tax abatement for cooperative apartments and condominiums in the City of New York for a period of four years until 2012. The City and State originally created the property tax abatement program in 1996.

The legislation passed the Senate with unanimous bipartisan support and now awaits action in the State Assembly where it is sponsored by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.

City Unveils Rules and Regs for "Lawn LItter Law"

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that the City of New York has unveiled the proposed rules and regulations for the “Lawn Litter” Law. The legislation, authored by Padavan, was signed into law in late January and allows residents throughout the City of New York to post a sign on their property to ward off the nuisance of unwanted literature, advertisements and fliers left on their property.

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that he will be hosting two Senior Health and Info Expos at two different locations in the 11th Senate District in the month of May.

Governor Signs 'Granny's Law"

 Governor David Paterson today signed legislation that would significantly increase and strengthen criminal penalties for attacks and assaults on senior citizens. Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) served as a lead co-sponsor of the legislation in the Senate.

 Senator Padavan joined with Governor Paterson and his legislative colleagues for a bill signing ceremony to mark the enactment of the new law was held at St. Margaret’s House in Lower Manhattan on Friday May 2.

Glen Oaks Campus Renamed In Honor of Senator Padavan

The New York City Department of Education today renamed the Glen Oaks Campus after New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens). New York City Chancellor Joel Klein and Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott along with city education, civic and community leaders joined together for the renaming ceremony for the over 30 acre campus in recognition of Senator Padavan’s leadership in securing the building of the schools and campus nearly a decade ago.

Padavan Sponsoring Cell Phone Recycling Drive

 New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that his district offices in Bellerose and Whitestone will once again be collecting used cell phones in order to recycle them for victims of domestic violence. Last October, Senator Padavan took part in local efforts to collect used cell phones from local constituents to help increase awareness of domestic violence during “National Domestic Violence Prevention Month.”
