Senator Padavan Delivers Record State Education Aid for NYC Schools

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that the State Legislature has adopted the 2008-2009 State Budget. Padavan noted that the final state budget includes a record $644 million increase in state education aid from last year’s state budget for New York City schools.  All totaled the 2008-09 State Budget invests a record $8.2 billion in education aid for schools throughout the five boroughs.

Padavan Delievers Funding for Little Neck LIRR Station Crossing Noise Reduction Plan

Padavan Introduces Pet Adoption Tax Credit Legislation

 New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that he has introduced legislation that will provide incentives for New Yorkers to adopt household pets.

 The first bill establishes a personal income tax credit up to $100 for the cost incurred for the adoption of a household pet from a pound, animal shelter, humane society or animal protective or rescue association.  The legislation defines household pets as any dog, cat or domesticated animal for the purpose of companionship.

Padavan: HEAP Help Still Available

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) is reminding Queens residents today that financial assistance is available for eligible residents to help lessen the financial burden associated with the rising cost of home heating from this winter.

 The Home Energy Assistance Program, or HEAP, is funded by the federal government, administered by the State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and is managed by local social service agencies. The Regular component of the HEAP program is opened for enrollment until May 15, 2008.

Padavan Opposes Expansion VLT's In New York

 New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) voted against legislation in the State Senate yesterday that greatly expands gambling in Queens and throughout the state. Senator Padavan’s major point of opposition to the legislation is the establishment of over 4,500 new video lottery terminals (VLT’s) at Aqueduct Racetrack. Revenue from these VLT’s will help fund a $105 million bankruptcy bailout for the New York Racing Association.

Padavan, Senate Pass E-STOP Legislation

 Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) and the New York State Senate today passed comprehensive legislation that would increase and enhance protections for all New Yorkers and children from dangerous sex predators on the Internet. The legislation entitled the Electronic Security and Targeting of Online Predators Act (e-STOP) passed with bipartisan support and now awaits action in the State Assembly.

 The legislation was developed in conjunction with Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and has been endorsed by all five New York City District Attorneys.
