On Thursday, May 7th I had the opportunity to honor 40 teachers from throughout our community who excel in the classroom in preparing our children for their future. On behalf of the families, students and parents I extend our gratitude to each and every teacher in the classrooms throughout Northeast Queens and our congratulations to the 2009 Teachers of Distinction.

Padavan Delievers Keynote Speech at PS 135Q Graduation

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) was the keynote speaker at the graduation ceremony for students from PS 135Q, the Bellaire School, at the New Greater Bethel Ministries in Queens Village. During his keynote address, Senator Padavan praised the fifth grade graduates for their hard work and success in their studies and urged them to volunteer and get involved in their community. Padavan addresses the graduates from PS 135Q during their commencement ceremony on June 19.

Senate Passes Padavan's NYC School Governance Legislation

The New York State Senate today passed legislation sponsored by Senator Frank Padavan (S.5887) that extends and improves mayoral control of New York City schools. The legislation now goes to Governor Paterson where he is expected to sign it into law before the start of the school year.

Statement from Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) on Elimination Of Rubber Rooms Agreement

For far too long, New Yorkers have been exposed to repeated and outrageous stories regarding the notorious “rubber room” system.  The “rubber room” system has long been synonymous with dysfunction and ineffectiveness drawing the ire and disgust of New Yorkers. That is why, I have been working with the City Department of Education and the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) to eliminate the current rubber room system and replace it with a better and stronger process.

Padavan Sponsors Educational Event At Mary Louis Academy

On Wednesday April 21st, New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) sponsored the “Young Women in Math Day” at the Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica Estates.

Padavan Honors 2010 Teachers of Distinction

 

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) marked National Teacher Appreciation Week by presenting awards to over 35 teachers at a ceremony he hosted at the Queens County Farm Museum in Floral Park on Thursday afternoon May 6th.  Padavan has hosted the Teachers of Distinction event for the past four consecutive years. 

 Teacher Appreciation Week was created in 1985 when the National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) agreed to observe the first full week in May in dedication to teachers across the country.
